I have an almost 12 year old boy. (He'll be 12 the end of October.)

We are using an eclectic mix of materials this year. It seems to be working well for us so far...LOL

We live in Wyoming, in a small town called Lovell. It is just East of Cody, WY if you have ever heard of that place. We are also about 30 miles from the Montana border.

I love homeschooling because I know that my child is safe, can learn at his pace, learn more and also learn with our family values. It is also fun most of the time.

I love The Old Schoolhouse magazine. I also have been using the Schoolhouse Planner this year. If any one is interested, I am giving a copy of the Schoolhouse Planner away on my blog this week. Here is the link if you are interested: http://homeschooltrenches.com/?p=37
The contest ends this Friday, so you still have loads of time to enter. :)

I also love Homeschool Tracker. It is a great little program!

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone here! :)

How old are your kids?
11.5 (5th grade) boy, almost 9 (3rd grade) girl, 6.5 (1st grade) boy and 3 (preschool-ish) boy.

How do you homeschool?
I guess I'd say we're "eclectic." I'd unschool given my druthers, but my husband prefers a more traditional homeschooling. So, we use the Switched-on-Schoolhouse curriculum for the older two kids. The 1st grader is having some reading struggles, so we're concentrating strictly on phonics right now. Someone gifted me a brand spanking new Hooked On Phonics and we're diving in with that. Will start my 3 year old in it after Christmas.

Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna)
Central Illinois - I'm a big city girl at heart, struggling with adjusting to life where the nearest Starbucks is 25 miles away and the nearest DSW is almost 2 hours!

What do you love about Homeschooling?
Having the time to spend with my kids. I figure they are only going to be young once and I want to be able to spend as much time as possible with them. The idea of sending them off to experience new and exciting things and not being there to watch just doesn't appeal to me.

Any good resources you can't live with out?
You mean besides Twitter?;)

Goodness, I posted the questions then got called away before I could answer them :)

How old are your kids? I have a 17 year old who isn't homeschooled, a 6 year old who is and a 2 1/2 year old who will be ;)

How do you homeschool? We currently are through a charter, but we may be flying solo soon :0)

Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna) I am in Central California

What do you love about Homeschooling?
FREEDOM!! My husband works an unconventional schedule, and if we were M-F public schoolers, my kids would NEVER see him!

Any good resources you can't live with out? Well, Twitter of course. All the great blogs in my blog reader, my online friends, and my calendar ;)

My kids are ages 15, 9 and 13 months. Currently homeschooling the older 2 in the 4th and 10th grades. I fully expect my baby to be one smart cookie after listening to me teach lol I kid of course :-)

I was following a curriculum but that wasn't always good for us so now I am going by textbooks at their pace (1oth grader is slow and 4th grader is fast)

We live in Orlando, Florida which is a great place to be because of all the resources at our fingertips. Disney's Animal Kingdom has Homeschool Days, and we go to Sea World and Universal, although Universal is usually just for fun :-)

I love that I am in control of what my children learn and how they learn it. My 4th graders was getting bored in school because she was ahead. So I speed her up. My 10th grader was doing nothing in school and failing. He has now read 6 famous novels and has jumped his reading score up by 3 grade levels :-)

I am loving lapbooking right now so any lapbooking resources are a must for me.

Nice to meet everyone :-)

I'm Annette from the lovely state of Illinois. We have two daughters that we've homeschooled since they were in the womb - now ages 16 and almost 15. We love it.

We take a pretty relaxed approach to homeschooling - not exactly unschooling but very "life driven" including having the girls very involved in our home business ventures and seeing that as part of their schooling. "Seatwork" has always been a mishmash of curriculum from various sources depending on the interest and level of the kids.

I pretty much love everything about homeschooling. I love that my kids are with me all the time, I love that they love to learn, I love that I can learn along with them (amazing what I never learned in "school"), I love that we can instill our values, I love that they can interact regularly with people of all age levels - that my girls have friends that are their own ages but also friends who are 80+ years old and under 2 years old... and really enjoy interacting with them all.... I could go on and on.

Resources I couldn't live without ... hmmmm .... I'll have to think about that one.

Hi All, I am Cheryl in Orange County, California. We just started our eighth homeschool year - WOW! How did that happen? I have three incerdible kids, but one flew the homeschool nest to go to a school of the arts to pursue her opera, she is 15. I am proud of her, but miss her during the day. My other two are boys, 12 and 11, in 6th and 8th grades. We are eclectic homeschoolers, but lean towards a whole book approach. This year we are trying out some new things like Rod & Staff for English - it is a little more structured than we are used to, but so far so good. We have used Sonlight every year in some form or another.

I love the whole lifestyle of homeschooling. I find it to be much more peaceful and less stressful then sending the kids out to school. With the 15 year old at school, I am daily reminded of this very fact.

I cannot live without the internet or my homeschool parkday group! This past year we discovered All About Spelling for my very spelling challenged 11 year old. It has made such an improvement in his spelling, I like to recommend it whenever possible.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Hi,

I'm Tsoniki, Mom to two kiddos ages seven and five and we currently live in southern Texas. My husband is in the military and we just got to TX this year and will be leaving next.

I love the freedom homeschooling has given us - both since we move often and in general. I love having the kids home with me and realizing they are still kids! We have more structure this year then we have in the past since my DH works strange hours - we adjust to it and the kids can see him sometimes, always a good thing. :)

We use a wide variety of books and not one set curriculum. I do love the Evan Moor workbooks though.

How old are your kids? Two children. Daughter 11 and son who will be 10 in October. One mom who is seriously sad that my babies are getting so big!

How do you homeschool? We use an extremely eclectic approach. Trying PACE this year for the first time but we are flexible and look for lifelong learning opportunities. I definitely believe that learning is caught not taught.

Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna) PA

What do you love about Homeschooling? flexibility, time with my children because full time job is demanding, watching them learn.

Any good resources you can't live with out? Games. We love to play. We have a lot of different kinds such as Ticket To Ride, Shadows Over Camelot, Dutch Blitz...out of the ordinary things that provide great learning opportunities. For me--the INTERNET (and twitter) reminds me I am not alone in this journey!!

Hi! I have been homeschooling forever it seems! My oldest is twenty and living on her own in a nearby city attending college.

My "at home" kids are 10, 12, 14, & 16 with the 16 yo being the only boy. We unschool so our days are pretty unstructured. The thing I love most about unschooling is seeing each of my children grow into themselves without all the peer pressure, teacher pressure, and other hassles of "away school."

We live in Oswego, NY, and the two resources that we absolutely couldn't live without are the internet and our library cards.

Hi everyone!
I am Linda and I homeschool our 3 children (Meghan 9, Connor 5 and Reagan 3)
We are using the Abeka curric. w/Meghan and the younger ones do not have a "specific" curric. as we use a little bit of everything.
We are set up in my "sitting room" and I have a table w/chairs and one big desk in there. However, we are transforming our garage into one big school room so hopefully it will be done soon!
What I love about homeschooling? Watching my children learn at their own pace. If that means they are above average then that is great and if it means they need a little help in certain areas at least I know we can work on it at our own pace.

Linda

Hi! I'm Sandra in NY's Capital Region.

How old are your kids?

I'm homeschooling my 9-year-old son, and my 12-year-old daughter attends an alternative private school.

How do you homeschool?

By the seat of my pants! Well, it feels like that, even though NY requires that I submit an IHIP & Quarterly Reports. We mix it up a bit - a little classical history, Singapore Math, some NY standards, and lots of unschooling tangents. And, I'm passionate about Digital Learning.

What do you love about Homeschooling?

Although one of my kids attends a private school, our entire family is part of the Home School experience. We just have an extra community with which to share our lives.

I think the best part of home schooling is learning with my kids! And, with the full-time homeschooler, we have the time and flexibility to do whatever we want to do.

Any good resources you can't live with out?

Our home library and the Internet, of course.

Hey, there! I'm Christine and I am a second generation homeschooler. I am the oldest of five, and my parents taught all of us at home, all the way through high school. I now have six kiddos, four of whom are "school age."

How old are your kids?
My twins are almost 8, my only daughter is 6, and I have a 4 yo, 2 yo, and 1 yo.

How do you homeschool?
I have taken the classical approach mostly, although we're pretty eclectic. I have used the Sonlight curriculum, with a bit of everything else mixed in! I am very blessed to have all of my mom's materials/books from years of collecting. :)

Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna)
We're in Nor Cal, near Sacto

What do you love about Homeschooling?
I love the freedom and flexibility. I love being with my kids all day, teaching them about life and the world around them... The looks on their faces when they finally "get it" makes it all worth it!

Any good resources you can't live with out?
The internet and my online friends!
