My daughter is 13 and we homeschool basically because she is not a morning person. It affected her entire day and friendships. Now she can sleep in and have pleasant days. She still has some of her public school friends and has made many new homeschool friends.

We are in Orlando. If anyone wants to meet up with us at one of the Disney parks, let me know. Sometimes we use the parks in our lessons (We even got to ride one of the roller coasters with a cup full of water! It was one of many things we did in their physics class that they offer).

What do I love about homeschooling? Everything! For instance, yesterday Feb 16, my daughter's Life Smarts team won the State Finals in Tampa and will be going to the Nationals in April !! Her entire team is made up of homeschoolers. One of her questions was about Gross Income; I knew she knew that one! I'm so proud of her and her friends.

The best resources that I can't live without? Veteran homeschool Moms. Just collect all the info you can from them, and research which fits your kids the most.

Feel free to add me as one of your TM friends or even one of your Facebook friends. I love talking to everyone!

Warm regards,
Peggy

Hi! I'm Cindy in Florida. I have 2 sons ages 15 and 13 they are currently in grades 11 and 9. We are in our 13th year of homeschooling. We are eclectic homeschoolers. This year I am working 2 part time jobs so our schedule has changed a lot. We are currently using Switched on Schoolhouse for math (Alg 1 and Alg 2) and science (Physical Science and Chemistry). We us progeny guides for literature, easy grammar plus for grammar, Truthquest American History, Old Testament Survey curriculum that I am writing for Bible elective, 15yo is doing Spanish, 13yo is doing a drawing class. They both play piano, are in the homeschool drama group I direct, are on the homeschool bowling league and are very active at church. I love being able to work towards mastery and to work at my boy's pace. I love being able to take off a Friday and run away to Disney World and then do school on Saturday. I couldn't live without my computer and the internet, especially now that the boys are in high school.

My kids are ages 15, 9 and 13 months. Currently homeschooling the older 2 in the 4th and 10th grades. I fully expect my baby to be one smart cookie after listening to me teach lol I kid of course :-)

I was following a curriculum but that wasn't always good for us so now I am going by textbooks at their pace (1oth grader is slow and 4th grader is fast)

We live in Orlando, Florida which is a great place to be because of all the resources at our fingertips. Disney's Animal Kingdom has Homeschool Days, and we go to Sea World and Universal, although Universal is usually just for fun :-)

I love that I am in control of what my children learn and how they learn it. My 4th graders was getting bored in school because she was ahead. So I speed her up. My 10th grader was doing nothing in school and failing. He has now read 6 famous novels and has jumped his reading score up by 3 grade levels :-)

I am loving lapbooking right now so any lapbooking resources are a must for me.

Nice to meet everyone :-)

How old are your kids?

7 yr old son, 4 yr old daughter and 13 month old son

How do you homeschool?

By the grace of God!! LOL, we do not have a structured setup at all, I pull info and work from the internet, some ABeka books I have purchased but most of the time I answer everyday questions. "How does this work?" I'm not sure, lets find out! The fun stuff!

Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna)

Outside Metro Atlanta

What do you love about Homeschooling?

The freedom to be with my kids and help ground them in Christ with out fear of someone saying otherwise. Also, my husbands job makes it hard to schedule things, so we do a lot of spur of the moment things with Daddy.

Any good resources you can't live with out?

My knees for prayer (LOL), my sister that has home schooled her kiddos for over 20 years, and of course the computer!

Hey, Mama's!

My kids are 16, 7 and 1 (and one on the way)

We are very eclectic. We practice unschooling to sometimes traditional. This is our first year, so we are enjoying finding our feet...so to speak. We use the library, netflix, books, internet (reliable sources of coarse), we are anywhere and everywhere that learning is free. Nature is our best friend.

We are in the Bluegrass state.

The number one reason I love homeschooling...Is the fact that I am with my children and I am the one teaching them, and they also teach me. I love that my children can explore and learn on their own levels and pace. I also LOVE that I get to teach them things a public or most private schools wouldn't.

I can't live without the library. We <3 our library!!

My son is 2 days shy of 6.

Right now, we're eclectic, but I've recently gravitated towards TWTM. So, we'll be doing a Tanglewood curriculum type thing for 1st grade.

Our book bags are hanging down South.

I love the flexibility and that I have the first and final say on my son's education and livelihood.

Sight Words with Samson has been amazing! My son has completed the entire program--through 3rd grade sight words.

Hey ya'll! My name is Marti and I homeschool our 10 year old daughter using a combination of 4th and 5th grade materials this year.

How do I homeschool?...Hummmm, well it depends on the subject really....there are only a couple of things that I make sure we do each day of the week. Such as multiplication and division time quiz, reading, literature, and PE...We do GUM, history, health and science during the week but never a set day. We also have a Bible study lesson twice a week that we enjoy and we ago on PLENTY of field trips=)

Where do we hang our book bag? At the moment, in Monterey, Ca, but soon to be in NC...We are a military family and my husband is being sent overseas for 2 years. My daughter and I are heading back home to NC to be near my family during that time.

What I like about homeschooling...having my daughter home w/ me # 1! It's nice to be able to decrease the amount of things she's exposed to that we deem inappropriate. On the other hand, there are things in public school they may not teach that we make sure we teach in our home, so it's nice to be able to control that. Anyway that's about it for now=) Hope to get to know some of you soon!!

Hi Everybody,

My name is Adiaha, pronounced Ah-day-ah-ha, and I am a mother of two girls 6 months and 7years. I am not homeschooling yet but plan on making the switch in the next year or so, as I build my doula business. I joined this group so that I can have a resource for the ups and downs, requirements etc needed for this undertaking. I am quite happy to look forward to homeschooling and really want it to be the best experience for myself and my two girls.

I maintain a blog http://adiaha.com, which is kinda in transition now. I finally decided (more or less) what my focus will be....

I look forward to gaining knowledge through your many wonderful and not so wonderful experiences and when the time is right I plan on jumping in and sharing mine too!

Peace. Love. Light,
adiaha

How old are your kids? 4 1/2 & 2 1/2 Their birthdays fall late so I decided to go ahead and homeschool so they wouldn't be behind

How do you homeschool? They are still young so I'm using a lot of print outs, library books, and the internet
Where do you hang your book bag? (general area, no need to list your city and state, if you don't wanna)

Any good resources you can't live with out? I'm in control of what my children are learning. It's MY values they are learning. They are learning at their own pace which is great! We are having loads of fun!

My 2 boys are 5 1/2 and just turned 3. I am teaching my 5 yr old between kindy and some 1st grade stuff. He has high Functioning Autism, so he is super bright but socially behind. We were given the choice to put him in kindy where he belongs social but will be bored with the work, or put him in 1st grade where socially he would struggle but be challenged with his education......we choose niether!

Right now with Homeschool I have been doing my own curriculm but next year I am planning on using a curriculm and trying to decide what to use right now.

We hang our bag in the Capital City of Pennsylvania, we moved here a few years ago.

I love homeschooling! I was homeschooled for several years and loved the freedom I had as a child. I played more but was so far ahead of the other kids. I love being the person with my child all day. I love being the person who guides my children to learning. I love that it is our values and ideals learn not those of the school or other peers. I love that my children will learn to be themselves before they try to learn to please other people and be who other want them to be. I love the freedom it give us. I love the day to day joys, I LOVE IT ALL!

My best resource is yet to be found....that is why I am here. I need more information and some great websites I can trust.

Hello all,

I live in rural Pa and homeschool 4 kids: son 16 (10th), daughter 13 (7th), son 10 (4th), daughter 5 (pre).

We traditionally homeschooled for a few years but when my eldest got to highschool I decided to enroll him in a cyber/charter school. He did very well and I liked the organization so the following year (this year) I also enrolled the next 2 kids. Honestly... I felt a bit like a quitter putting them in a charter but I love the curriculum, we're very organized, the charter teachers have been great, and the older kids are learning to be more independent and self-motivated. It turned out to be a good choice for us.

I also run my own business from home so the organization and teacher back-up is very appreciated. I still have my littlest all to my self and won't enroll her for a few years yet. The cyber/charter has been the best of both worlds... I still get to be here and be active with their schooling, they still rely on me for most of the teaching and work, but everything we need is in one place and I always know we've "done enough" work for the day.
