Or are you all over the house?????

I have done both but keep returning to the "schoolroom" just to contain the mess! I always said, "I don't want learning confined to one room of the house so we won't have a schoolroom." But now, we just have "school" storage space and a table to work at. (If we use the dining room table, it is never cleared off! We go from books and legoes to dishes and crumbs! I hated that!)

So what are your opinions on the "schoolroom" in the house????

Karen, we try to do this, too. And of course we use the WHOLE house and WORLD even for our schoolroom. But I do like to have a place where our current books are on a shelf and each child has his/her own writing box to have easy access to their materials. When I didn't have a "school room," we spent more time running around looking for everything. It was very frustrating. And I'm not really organized anyway, so every little bit helps! I hate it when we can't find the book we're reading or the geoboards or whatever! (My oldest is pretty much in charge or her own stuff, and I can't tell you how many times we find her notebooks in the couch cushions or a book behind one of the doors. Well, at least she comes by it honestly. :) I just hope it doesn't take her as long to learn organization as it has taken me! LOL)

I don't want school at home, so to have a classroom/schoolroom would be shooting that whole idea in the foot. We go where ever is most adaptable to the lesson. Office for online stuff, park for nature stuff, table for handwriting, etc.

Hi
Most of our schooling ends up being in my office! Most of the girls books are in here. We have a couple of comfy sofas, so they can do their "school" work and I can work on the computer at the same time. It has to get cleared away when I need to do some recording or need my office as an office. It seems to work quite well.

I just started last month, and I cleared our our second kitchen in the basement we never used. That's where we'll be for most messy arts/crafts and science experiments.

I cleared our our loft landing for a nice comfortable quiet place to read and learn as well. All our books are here.

And our kitchen and deck area are getting alot of use, but because I have designated the first two locations to keep most of our homeschooling stuff, the kitchen never gets too messy.

Hi there! I'm new to twitter and to the group! We also have a school room but it's mostly for storage...We always end up at the dining room table. We sure had good intentions when the year started, decorating the school room, having a clean desk (that never lasts long!!!) all of our pens and pencils neatly placed in holders....yadda, yadda, yadda....It's always a MESS now, is used for a "catch all" and to store our growing collection of supplies!!! And yes, the dining table is messy too!!!

We are not the sit in desks in neat little rows kind of family, lol. We are going to get what my kids are calling the laboratory when we finish the basement. It is going to be more of a material storage and messy project type of area.

We do most of our "homeschooling" away from home. :-) I work fulltime as a Children's Librarian and do alot of volunteer work about literacy with local families so we are hardly ever home. My youngest son has always been homeschooled and has always done it on the road, at the library, in the park, at the beach, or at the local Barnes and Noble when I was the Children's Program Director there.

He definitely knows that learning is a 24/7, all-over-the-place adventure! LOL
