twitter moms: the influential moms network

I am new to this group and haven't had much time to socialize since I signed up because I have been extremely busy trying to figure out how I am going to support myself as a single mom and be able to stay home to continue homeschooling my son.

I will try to make a long story short here. My son and I had been talking about homeschool but were going to wait until I could figure how how to do it all successfully. I was trying to start a daycare but had not been doing that very long when we decided suddenly to go ahead and take him out of public school - for various reasons. Trying to homeschool him, which I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing but knew I surely couldn't do any worse than the school was, and deal with other little kids was a bit more than I could handle so I gave up the daycare idea - partly - and started racking my brain for other ideas.

What I came up with you can read more about at my site Homeschool Tees. To be brief I am starting a contest for homeschool kids to submit their artwork. The winners get their artwork available to be sold and printed on t-shirts for the homeschool community to purchase. The winners also receive a percentage of the sale of those purchases along with another prize for the top winner.

There is a longer explanation about how I came up with this idea on my site but basically I wanted to be able to give to the community from which I am asking help from.

Please take the time to visit my site and see how you can help Homeschool Tees

Hello Christina

I applaud you on your creative effort! Well Done!

You may want to join www.thehomeschoollounge.com and let those homeschool moms know.

There are posting guidelines, but it is a much larger targeted market for you with over 7 000 homeschoolers that you can reach!

All the best with this!

Hi- great to hear of another single mom out there taking the plunge to homeschool. Congratulations on your focus and determination for your new business!! I teach art to kids and love the idea that you are empowering kids by recognizing their talent.

I've had my son enrolled in an online Mastery Program for a year and the curriculum has been terrific. My son feels satisfied academically and I am free of the miriad of problems facing a mother with a child in public middle school. He's more social than ever because he is happier and more confident.

My greatest obstacle has been my son's father who has taken me to court to put my son back in public school. It's unfortunate that there is so much mis-information about "homeschooling" out there and that all forms of alternative education are lumped under one stigmatized umbrella because the courts have sided with him insisting homeschooling is for weird people. Our court/judicial system here in Los Angeles is not educated about alternative modes of education. Perhaps this is something that will change for future alternative education consumers.

So, I write to all of you homeschoolers with sadness that we may be leaving this community at the end of this academic year.

Be well!
