What kind of themes do you go with in having a get together/party? Not necessarily for a given holiday or occasion, but just a time for others to get together.

Do you go with simple themes or all out? Invite everyone you know or just the few closest friends to all get together and mingle?

I don't have TOO many friends, especially around my area and we have a rather small place, but I would love to just have a random party for those I care about to just, have a party for the sake of a party! Anyone else in the same boat, or what would/could you do??

A fall soup or chili party is always fun. I want to have an 80's themed party soon. I usually have a theme like food, decade, season, color, etc. I have specific small groups. Neighbors, church friends, my girlfriends, sports group or just kids. I personally like more intament gatherings. It's easier if you cook and you get a chance to chat with everyone.

A soup/chili party is a great idea for the coming cooler weather! That would be great, thanks for the suggestion, Amy!

My friends and I recently had a "Favorites" party.
We all picked something that was a "favorite" -- that we "have" to have ... and bought enough for everyone coming to the party. (In this case, 6 people.) We all brought some favorite snacks and the hostess provided beverages and we all got to hang out together - and exchange our favorites. Everyone went home with faves from each guest.

Examples: Fuzzy socks & a List of Fave books, Fave lip gloss, Fave Teas stuff in a nice cafe mug, Fave seeds to plant in a garden - in a tiny pot , burn a DVD of fave songs, Sample of fave lotion, etc etc. Small things, put together nicely.

It was fun....this can be done w/themes do for times of the year. We're going to do it again w/a Spring theme.
