I am brand new to any blogging, tweeting or forums. I spend most of my time outside with my animals and new son. With the addition of my baby I started a facebook page so my family and friends could see his growth on a daily basis. I have a friend that invited me to join twittermoms. I found this group which is right up my alley.

I was raised jewish and went to an orthodox grade school. I no longer keep all of the practices, but tradition is alive and well in my home. My husband was raised non-denominational, is not religious by any sense of the word and just celebrates the big holidays (Easter and Christmas.) He considers himself jew-ish by marriage.

We've agreed to raise our son jewish and his family is very supportive of our decision. A huge showing at his Bris. We'll celebrate the holidays with his family as well and I've agreed to have a christmas tree. We do not belong the the local temple for the same financial reason, however, I attend services when we have the opportunity and my husband has come along as well.

I'm hoping by joining this group I'll be connected with a wider view and have the advantage off all of your experiences.

Aimee,

I'm originally from NY (now in Atlanta) and grew up in a reform synagogue as well. My family sounds alot like yours. (Inter-faith, 14 years married in September, celebrate all the holidays together, etc.) We have only a small Christmas tree, though, otherwise the cats would climb it. Even my in-laws celebrate the Jewish holidays with us, and my father-in-law is a retired minister. So far the kids don't seem too confused, though one christian cousin did want to be jewish for a while. It's nice to see other families like ours.

Mellisa,

I'm from an interfaith family as well. My husband is United Methodist. My 6 yr old son started Sunday School last school year. We plan for both of our kids to have a Bar/Bat mitvah. We planned from the beginning to raise them both Jewish. I would try talking to your husband about it. If he's really bothered, you don't want him just stewing about it. Just try to keep it a calm and friendly discussion. Is your husband involved with the synagogue at all? Maybe if he feels more a part of the community your son is becoming a part of, he will feel better about it. It's not just about the religious school and services. It's also about the social events and getting to know the other families. It helps if there are other inter-faith families at your temple. Hope this helps.

Raised Jewish, married a Catholic. Our thought was to raise the kids with both religions and traditions. Recently my 9-year old son declared he wants to be Jewish (even though he still believes in Santa). So he has begun the hebrew lessons to get him caught up for Fall hebrew school. He really wants to have a bar-mitzvah. Who am I to tell him no? Not to mention my overbearing Jewish mother would put a hex on me if I didn't pursue this.

I think it's freaking my husband out but he isn't saying a word. Do I bring it up or let it ride?

hi very new to blogging and this group but glad I found this, i was starting to wonder if blogging was an exclusive club that we were left out of. I have a feeling this is where I will come when I need questions answered also. So far most of the mom bloggers I have encountered have not been very nice. Look forward to reading and talking with this group! Melissa
