Just added an article about Forever Families Weekend: http://www.twittermoms.com/profiles/blogs/special-weekend-planned-for
Please pass it along to your Jewish friends/relatives whose families have been touched by adoption!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a single mom of a beautiful little girl who happens to be adopted. A failed marriage and several "life lesson" relationships later, I felt being a mom was more important while there was still time. My thought...you can get remarried at any age. You don't have the energy to be the mom of a newborn at any age. My daughter went through the Mikveh at 6 weeks. We had to go to my parents Temple in L.A. because no one in AZ would work with me being a single mom. Seemed silly since I was saying I wanted to raise my child Jewish. So glad to have found a group so open and diverse!

Hi Everybody!
My name is Debra Markovic and I am the Concierge for Jewish Education at the Bureau of Jewish Education in LA. I help families find the Jewish parenting groups, preschools, day schools, religious schools, camps, teen, parent and special needs programming that meets their needs best. Our service is free, and we also have a website: http://www.jkidla.com. If any of you are LA-based and looking for consultation and referral services for any of the above, or just want to know what fun, family events and activities are taking place in Jewish LA, feel free to contact me anytime!

Thanks, Ruth!
BTW - for intermarried families like mine, I highly recommend this book about celebrating "Christmukkah, the hybrid holiday." (If we can't laugh at ourselves, after all...)

Aimee,
Welcome! lol I love your into and I don't think you can mess your kids up anymore than the rest of us.

I laugh because my kids are grown up, pretty much, youngest is a senior in high school and we have done the Hebrew feasts for years. I finally found a book to help them explain to thier friends "why we are so wierd".

We are Christian or Messianic Christians if you like and no one around are area gets it. So we have lots of great discussions with our kids and their friends. ;)

Again Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Hey, all! Just wanted to introduce myself...

I'm your classic, over-assimilated Jersey Jew! I went all the way through Hebrew school (Bat Mitzvah AND Confirmation) at a reform synagogue, and learned lots of wonderful leftist, humanitarian ideals. But I didn't really learn much about the traditions of Judaism.

So...I married a wonderful man who is NOT Jewish. (Go figure - neither my brothers or my cousins who attended that same synagogue married Jews - but all our other cousins did!)

My husband and I have been married happily for fourteen years, and we respect each others' faiths. We celebrate Christian and Jewish holidays as whole-heartedly as we can. Big Christmas tree in December, Seders with my folks in April.

And so far, it's all working out...I'm Jewish. He's Christian. There's love. There's respect. It's all good.

So, that's my story! I hope the mixed-marriage thing can work as well for others. And that I'm not screwing my kids up any more than moms in same-religion families do. ;-)

Thanks for your warm welcome. I have been so busy lately that I have not been on for sometime. I guess I still am searching, or I would know exactly what to do by now. I am going to go out of my comfort zone this weekend and try a methodist church with my husband. Honestly, I am not sure he will be comfortable, but we will see.

My dad is non-orthodox Jewish and my mom is Roman Catholic although neither one of them practicied. My dad had a Bar Mitzvah and my mom was Baptised/Had Communion but that's about it. I'm Pagan myself as is my husband. We celebrate Hanukkah, Passover and Rosh Hashanah, that's it. But I love it.
