Okay, I just joined the Jewish group and the Atheist group in the same day.

I am a Bright (naturalistic world view), my husband is a cultural Jew, and my kids are mostly atheists (one deist--he doesn't like the atheist label). So my house is a little weird.

I have lots of stories about living in Southern Baptist territory with an ostensibly Jewish family. Be happy to share.

We do belong to a synagogue—the Bar Mitzvah thing was (is) important to my husband and his family. The kids have been very cooperative, although their D'var Torahs were always a bit different...

Yes, they are expensive. Do I feel the warm, fuzzy community thing from it? No. They lock it up tighter than a drum (security concerns), and I have to show ID to walk in, even if I have three kids in tow.

Will we keep our membership after the last Bar Mitzvah? That depends on how persuasive I can be...

Hi, ladies. I just posted on my blog www.iamnoexpert.wordpress.com

I post a new quandary each week and invite readers to give me their thoughts. This week: am I helping my child be bilingual or am I being an overly worried helicopter mom? You decide.

Does anyone belong to a synogogue? We are about to join one. Man, are they expensive or what?

I talk a lot about being Jewish in a Christian culture on Twitter. I live in North Dallas, one of the most conservative areas of the country. I have been wanting to claw my eyes out at how much Christian identity is assumed here. I grew up in suburban Detroit with many, many Jews so I am not used to living in this kind of environment. I look forward to problem solving with you all.
