Blocking

What is your preferred way of blocking a knitted item. I don't have a blocking board or wires, so I need an easy way to do it!

I steam iron my pieces to the measurements on the ironing board. I block my shawls by washing first and then stretch out on the bed in the guest bedroom with lots of towels. The shawl will dry within hours because of the towels absorb the wetness rigth away. I have considered purchasing the wires at the next Maryland Sheep and Wool festival in May.
