Great advice, Anne!
I'm going to use the pattern on p. 63 of "The Yarn Girls' Guide to Simple Knits" and wool from Green Mountain Spinnery.
I've also started knitting yet another pair of socks. It's with a yarn that has chitin in it. Has anyone else used that? I think I got it at Mary Maxim.com

Comment by Anne Mayhew on October 17, 2008 at 7:36am - You're going to love it. Take your time and be patient. I wasn't so concerned with perfection on my first project as I was for completion! It's a bit like putting a puzzle together - start with easier ones and then move up!

- It really is addictive! I only know how to cast on and one basic stitch, and I'm already bringing my stupid, extremely ugly project with me everywhere! Next I need to learn how to finish. I guess I could call what I'm doing a "scarf". My 6 year old was calling it a "barf." I think that might be more appropriate!
