I was born in San Antonio, Texas but as far as I know from my family history...my grandparents were descendents from Mexico. It wasn't till I got older...that I really embraced my heritage. I am brown and proud now!!!!
I am mexican american. My mom is from Mexico & my dad is well mexican american as well. My dad worked alot when I was little & my mom was a stay at home mom, she only spoke spanish, so spanish was my first language. Found it very easy though to adapt to speaking english, it's true when you're a kid you pick up things so quickly.
Both of my parents were born in Puerto Rico but I was born in Brooklyn Ny. Both of my parents speak fluent spanish and made sure it was my first language.
That's great! My best friend is Mexican-American and she doesn't know Spanish. She told me she signed up for her local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and felt left out because she didn't speak the language. Her parents stuck to English and she wishes they hadn't. Thanks for posting!
