I was born in Peru and am fluent in Spanish. Recently my husband and I traveled to Peru along with our daughter. She had a great time meeting the rest of her family for the first time!
I am a cultural sata. My mother emigrated from Switzerland, dad from EEUU and I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Aunque naciera en la luna my heart belongs to Puerto Rico.
I was born in Puerto Rico, lived in NY till I hit my teens and then returned to Puerto Rico. My heart is in PR most of the time and I have to admit at times i forget my English! Cuando yo hablo en espanol en mi cas los ninos sabien que he llegado al limite! Thats the sign!
My oldest son is half Cuban and half Puerto Rican. My youngest is half Jamaican and half Puerto Rican.
Hi all!
I was born and raised in NYC (Manhattan's very own Washington Heights) both my parents are Dominican. My first language is Spanish and pretty much learned English watching shows like Mr. Rogers and the Electric company (I'm a proud product of the 80's). My hubby is Boricua and Dominicano - he understands Spanish but doesn't speak it all that well. I have a 5 month old and I only speak to him in Spanish and Spanglish (depending whether or not I know the word in Spanish of not =})
I'm half Mexicana, half gringita...my mom grew up in Mexico and came to the US in her 20s...she raised my sister and I speaking only in Spanish and now my husband and I are trying hard to continue the language in the next generation. Our 2 boys are 5 and 7 and know a lot of language, and are just now starting to string it together into sentences. My husband has a Master's in Spanish, so he can jump in!
We've used songs, mostly, to increase interest and to make it silly and fun...and recently have ramped up to more Spanish all day--which has been a great thing for me and improving my own language skills.
My most recent effort is reading more Spanish for pleasure for ME...any good novels you've enjoyed lately in Spanish?
