twitter moms: the influential moms network

Hey Mamas!

First off, I don't want this to come off as me just pimping my new site ... my motive is purely to help parents, who, like me, are having to do a little creative budgeting.

I started Swap Mamas about a month ago -- it's a social networking community of parents who, rather than SPEND money on new kids clothes, toys, books, etc., are making friends and swapping what they already have.

Imagine -- you could actually give those too-small kids clothes or unused toys to another mama who needs 'em, save money, be kind to the environment, AND get something you need in return! Yippee!

There are tons of groups you can join on the site already and members are adding new ones every week. I really hope you decide to check it out -- it's a great group of parents -- I'm already seeing connections being made and fantastic swaps goin' down!

Would love to know -- do you actively swap stuff to save money?

Hope to see you soon -- happy swappin'!

This is similar to freecycle (yahoo groups in various cities), I will check it out.

Hi Dana -- Similar, yes, but more of a niche, tailored specifically to moms -- and not limited to trading by city. We're building a great online community -- hope to see you there!

I was thinking the same thing as Dana Neal, this is "Freecycle.org" That being said, I'd rather swap with mom's who I know want, appreciate, and will use the items. With Freecycle.org, you don't really know who's asking for items or if their need is authentic. If you've ever been on you know what I mean. For example at Christmas time, there were actually posts from people wanting Wii's and other over the top items, in my opinion. This site however is with moms, for moms. I like that. I'll check it out.

Exactly, Diamond!

The cool thing about Swap Mamas is that it truly is a COMMUNITY. Freecycle really isn't. On Swap Mamas, other moms are getting to know each other, forming bonds and supporting each other.

Another thing that sets it apart is it's strict "No transfer of funds" rule. Recipients don't even pay for shipping. (Just like you'd do with friends.) It's really a "Swap it Forward" movement -- you wouldn't believe the amount of conscientious, good-hearted people out there who just want to GIVE, and if they get something in return, great ... if not, no big deal. It's an amazing feeling to be part of such a thing.

Can't wait to see you!

Fantastic! You definitely have to check out the Etsy Mamas Group once you join -- it's right up your alley!

It sounds similar to Zwaggle.com a free places where families post their good used items for other families to either pick up or ship. Kids clothes, toys, baby gear, etc. You earn Zoints and spend Zoints. It sounds like a GREAT idea.
