Anyone have any great ideas on how to spend a great evening just you and hubby without spending a ton of money. As if paying a babysitter isn't enough, then dinner and a movie could make anyone need a second job. With money as tight as it is for everyone, I thought that this would be a good place to bounce ideas off each other!! =)
We haven't incorporated date night as yet, but I'm looking forward to it. By the time I put the little one to bed, I'm asleep with him. I just figured out the whole take a shower as soon as I get in, so that I don't have to worry about not taking a shower.
Date night doesn't have to take place during the night. Depending on your kids ages, if they have a birthday party to attend or if they are playing at a friends house, take advantage of that time and get a bite to eat or catch an early movie. Whenever any of our kids friends come over and I notice the parents are "empty nesters", I always encourage them to go out somewhere. I have a great friend who also has three kids and we swap kids one night a month so that we each can have a quality date night and know our kids are safe. An inexpensive date for us is a trip to the book store, checking out model homes, walking in our neighborhood, renting a movie and just relaxing in our home after the kids go to bed. There are tons of ways to be creative, just tap into things that bring you joy!
Oh I am all for a cheap date..lol. Because we have four kiddos we have to plan our dates wisely. The base (military) that we live on has a program called "Give parents a break" this program offers free daycare one night a month and the spots are limited. We seriously call at the crack of dawn to get all four of them in. So as you can see that is cheap tip number one.. find free day care =) On our last date we just cruised the mall, played in the arcade, went dream shopping (you pick a dollar amount, say $5000, and go pretend shopping). Then we went out to eat at Chilis and to Walmart where we played in the toys section..lol.
I wrote all about it here with fun pictures. The night cost us about $50 total and that is for food and change for video games. We like to go places we wouldn't take our kids.. like a fine china shop..lol
We had a date morning today after dropping the kids off to school. We went to breakfast and had a great time, then we went to staples together. Anytime together out of the norm is always special.
At least once a week, after we put the kids to bed, we turn on the radio and play scrabble. I make a special dessert for us to share, and we gigle, sing along with radio and see who can come up with the highest point word. It is really fun, and we just focus on eachother for a little while.
Thankfully, we have a lot of family around that are quick to jump at the chance to babysit, so we get that for free. We haven't done anything lately, but we have an e-play kiosk at our Walmart that charges just $1 to rent a movie. I love cooking, so we don't eat out much anyway. Just cooking something simple and yummy is the best.
