Mom Cooks Gluten Free

Gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley and oats) has been linked to conditions such as celiac, autism, ADHD, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, depression etc.! I have written children's books on healthy eating and am working on a gluten free menu book!

Hurray! So glad you are doing this...we are mostly gluten-free here in our home and it's often a challenge. I can't wait to learn more about your books for kids.

Getting back into my Gluten Free routine. I have been off of it for a while and I feel awful and have my little blister-like rash showing up again. It's so worth the trouble to stay healthy! Thanks for all the motivation!

Thanks, Karen. My oldest is 11 so we go through a lot of "it was fine for years" and "it's not fair" things. Well, it wasn't fine for years - we just didn't know what was causing the problems. I try so hard to get her to realize how much healthier she is, but every time I think I'm gaining ground I find a cookie wrapper in her backpack. That's not an issue, now that she's at her new school but I hate that it takes me sacrificing so much to pay tuition just to keep her safe.

Welcome Heather!! We're so glad you're here. I'm looking forward to your gluten free dialogue! I've been fortunate that my son hasn't been trying to cheat these days. He's 7 now. It's harder when they're so young and it's harder to explain the consequences. :-) Thanks for joining us!

I'm excited to find this group! We started our gluten free journey about 4 years ago when my youngest (now 3.5) was diagnosed. It was only a few short months later that we discovered all our older 2 girls' issues were also gluten related. The entire family has been completely gluten free for 3 years now and doing very well.

We struggle with the older 2 wanting to cheat. I actually had to pull my oldest out of her school and move her to a private school that does not sell pop-tarts and cookies in the cafeteria just to keep her safe. (Seriously, even without the gluten issues, why is that acceptable food at school?)

I'd love to send her my book!!! :-) I wrote it for little hearts just like that. There are many great gluten free resources out there now! She's not alone. Tell her it's estimated that almost half of the U.S. population can't tolerate gluten and they just don't know it yet. She'll just get to feel healthier and better than everyone else!

Thanks Karen!!!
Grace is 5.5 (that half is a big deal to her :) ) She is doing so well with the trasition. She has a great momma. But some days she wonderes why "God made her this way, when she used to be "normal" ..that will break your heart!!!!

Welcome Dana! I will definitely check out both sites. How old is she? I have a children's picture book out called "How I Eat Without Wheat" that I published when my son was diagnosed. It's really for ages 2-6.
Please let me know if I can help at all. Also, check out Maryland Celiac's twittermom's Celiac group! :-)
