What are some of the ways you have made money on your site and which ones do you like the best. I use google adsense and have been trying to find a green ad ad site but most say you need about 50,000 uniques per month to get money from their ads.

Suggestions?

I've made money by having people pay me to write about their site on my blog.

I have my own business products and services that I promote from my blog, so for me, it's more about selling my expertise to show people why they should do business with me. I also work with some affiliates that provide products that complement what I do. I'm now getting into sponsorships, as I've built up my traffic enough to make the numbers look good to companies within my industry.

To really make money on ads on your site the best options are ads like BlogHerAds that pay for page impressions (not clicks on the actual ads), selling ad space (this is big for small online retailers like etsy store owners, etc) or site that pay you to blog about their products.

I don't have an answer to this, but I would love to start generating myself! If you find anything worthwhile let me know!

lorie, I can't use Blogher because not enough green ads, but I will take your idea about looking for sites which pay for page impressions since I have lots of them. I do straight ads from small companies but you can't charge much. I am charging $50 per month for 125 by 125 ad.

Projectwonderful.com is a good site to use to get your feet wet in web advertising. People bid for ad spots that you create on your site/blog, etc. You can also bid to place ads on other blogs.

I'd love for someone to DM me on how I can make money from my blog. Google Adsense has different packages available, I think the lowest starts as $30/mnth. Is it worth it?

I charge $15/mnth for a 125x125 button on each page - no one is buying! : (

What is the difference between a sponsor and advertisement?

I use Connect Comerce (through Google), Linkshare and Commision Junction which are all affiliate ads. You make money if someone clicks on the ad and purchases something (you make a commission). I also have coupon.com on my site where you make money if people print the coupons out. If you have any questions feel free to ask. You can check it out SwapSavers Good Luck!

Sometimes people don't know they can hire you to blog for them (review products), etc. If you post a pay per review badge on your site, it's not good since Google frowns on it. At one point they even lowered people's page rank across the board that had the badges. Maybe try putting another sign on your blog that you are willing to accept money. Some people have a tip jar or a paypal link with a donate button. That is an indicator that you are willing to sell ads or review or monetize your blog somehow. You can even add a credit card logo somewhere at the bottom that tells people you are for hire.

As far as the difference between a sponsor and advertisement. There really isn't a difference. Just depends on what the blogger labels the ad.

As far as Google adsense. Try testing different ways it is displayed. Move it from the top to the side, to just blog posts display, change the color, etc. Try some different things to see if it will generate links.

Also as far as reviews go. Advertisers like to see that their product review got some traction. Make sure your readers are leaving comments for the review post. Sometimes organizing a giveaway along with the review is a good way to do this. Ask people that want to enter the giveaway to leave a comment to enter, etc.

Barbara, I was recently asked to do a paid review and I declined to take money. Someone told me that taking the money would make me look like I was biased. Asking them to advertise would also. So, I did not know what to do.

I receive alot of request to write about products but can't take them all. The ones I like I request a giveaway. Others, I ask them to advertise on the site since it will give them more exposure. Some do it and others don't, but with $50 an ad, this is nothing.

I also use Shareasale but the commissions are low. The bottom line seems like you need to have lots of traffic to make money on your site. So, there is really the question.

How do you get lots of traffic? Anna

I guess my view is that people get paid millions of dollars to wear a brand or eat a hamburger or whatever, so if you can make $25 or $50 to review a product, I say go for it. If you really don't like the product, then of course don't do it, but why can't one take advantage of a win win situation? When I read blogs with reviews I don't really care if the person got paid or not. If I like the product I might try it out. Just my opinion.

As far as the traffic. Getting traffic to your blog is a full time job these days. Trust me I am sitting here on my 14th hour in front of the computer and it is Friday night(argh). The blog world has been so diluted with junk that the quality blogs have to work hard to stand out and get noticed.

Things you can do to get traffic:
Content is key and good content is king. Submitting sites to social networking sites. Writing posts that appeal to the masses and not just your family. These are just a few things, but it does take time. Lots of time and commitment. Sometimes it also takes money to invest in PPC or other avenues to get your blog the exposure it needs.
