twitter moms: the influential moms network

I don't use pictures on my blog unless they are mine or I am given permission to do so. I have noticed that most people do use pictures from other websites such as company logos, product pictures, etc....

I don't like to take any chances, but from what I read, you aren't allowed to use pictures without the company's permission due to copyright laws. Maybe I am wrong, since just about everyone does it. What do you think?

This is a great question. I hope you get more responses.

I'm like you--I only use my own photos, or I ask for permission before using if it's something I don't have a photo of. I've also used Creative Commons photos from flickr, and I let the photographers know I'm using their photos.

As a reporter, the usage of Internet photos is still being debated. The common thought on the subject is that photos posted on social sites like flickr and facebook are fair game IF they are public. Most businesses and organizations want their photos passed out because it's free press. Getting those photos played up on outside sites is one of the only ways to get noticed in this social media world.

I am very select with the photos I use. I rarely write negative things, but when I do I take my own photo (if I use one). I always link to their site through the photo and a link in the blog itself.

Great question! If you are truly worried about using a certain photo, just ask the source before you post it.

I use pictures all the time, it's probably not legal but I've been doing my blog for about 3 years and have never had a problem ( I will now I'm sure... :) )

I figure the worst thing they will do is tell me to take it down, I'll comply immediately and be done.

I do get a lot of pictures from flickr, but like someone mentioned, I think most places are happy to have their logo spread around especially in a positive way, or if you are linking back to them/their site. I used to worry about it a lot, then I noticed so many other people doing it I caved.

Thanks! I think I will stick with just using pictures I know I can use. My blog probably looks a little more bland than others in my topic, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
