Looking into doing a giveaway on my blog, http://mommygaga.blogspot.com. What is the best way to go about this? How often do you do giveaways? Are they successful at bringing in followers/hits? What are the best products

I think it can be, and it certainly seems to draw readers who never otherwise comment out of the woodworks. ;)
For me, I don't think it's drawn more followers/hits, but I do them as a way to reward my loyal followers.
I think the wider appeal the product, the more likely you'll pull in a variety of, and more new, readers.
