Hi all. I'm new to this group so introducing myself. I'm a filmmaker and writer. Worked as tv journalist for CBC television for many years, then moved to Singapore for 3 years, came back to Canada and went to university and then began working as researcher for national research org. 5 years ago returned to film (video) and now do it all--I produce, shoot, edit, write, etc. but frequently contract others when need a team (http://www.itsaboutus.ca). About to enter new creative phase with my husband, an architect/planner, in a rather scary yet exciting venture into online publishing and writing. Stay tuned!

Reading posts below and have to say I'm always impresed by women, anyone really, who "just does it." So lots of encouragement there. AND boy do I wish I'd thought of that "refill time" idea. Fantastic!

Lori, do you mean you went back to school to major in art after your kids were raised? I'm interested in how that went if so? My youngest will be in school in three years, and I want to go back to school, perhaps, art related.

Hi Liz. When my girls were young and at home, I'd take a few minutes and plan the day in 15-30 minutes slots, alternating time with me, time with each other, time all together, and time alone. I wouldn't tell them what was coming up next, so it would be a surprise. Ideas: reading time, game time, a craft, TV time, active activities, cooking together, outings, etc. If you plan it right, you can have an hour or more to yourself with little interruptions.

We are now foster parents for teenage girls, and something I've instituted recently is "refill time" - quiet time where everyone goes to their room and reads, draws, does puzzles, listens to music, (no TV), etc. That gives me time to myself and teaches them to feed themselves.

Hope some of this helps - you definitely need to have some time to yourself - your own refill time. :)

luckily i dont need much sleep, so i work after they go to sleep till about 1 am. (not every night) Liz it seems like your girls are old enough to keep each other busy. an idea would be maybe to write up a plan of things they do every day, or a big project they will have for the summer. this way they have something to follow and maybe part of the plan is to let you work for a few hours at a time. just an idea... :-)

I don't. I have three paintings that have been sitting out half finished since May. Can't stop long enough to decide what to do next. Anybody got any suggestions, I need them, too.

What a great idea this group is! I'm a mom of a 6-year-old daughter who plays piano and studies ballet. I have a master's in music and am an independent piano teacher and a freelance organist and pianist. I write about teaching piano and music for kids at lowepianostudio.blogspot.com.

I am the mother of two bright, creative grown children (29 and 26). We live in Massachusetts, where, by day, I'm a legal assistant. By night, I'm an actor and director. I started doing community theater when I was 11, got my degree at UCRiverside and have invested all my time and energy in community theater ever since. Directing came late, I just started 14 years ago...now I love directing as much as acting!

Hello all. I am mom to be with a 11 year old. I do mostly paintings and sketches. My current project right now is doing restoration on the statue of Mother Mary in my mother's church.

I have been doing art since the age of 7. I also attended art high school and art college in NYC. I look forward to networking with everyone.
