When did you move your son to a big bed? My son is 20 months and has never really liked his crib. Wondering when everyone began the transition and what worked best.

I would hold off as long as you can! It is so much easier when they are in a crib and you (may) have tons of time left. I was actually able to keep my oldest in a crib until he was three. (Old I know -- he just never tried to climb out because we always let him have toys in his bed.)

We moved both boys to big boy beds when my youngest just turned two because he started climbing out. Things have been so much harder since then and my 7pm bedtime is long, long gone.

I would wait until he starts climbing out and enjoy the peaceful nights while you can. :)

I'd hold off as long as I could also. That said, I had to move my youngest from his crib at 18 months, here's why : http://onestopboyshop.com/blog/?p=114

Our transition was easy since he didn't want to be in his crib anyway as you can tell by the video link above.

Good Luck!

I think all children react differently and I have heard you should try to keep them in the crib as long as possilbe - of course I didn't lol!

I moved both my boys at 24months - my first was crazy and wouldn't stay in bed and it took hours to keep him in there - my second slept in the bed the first night and never looked back. oh and both did start waking up very early in the morning - not a fun part of the process but will happen with some.

good luck

our grandson 19 months old is being introduced slowly. he would rather sleep on the bed with me or my husband to take a nap. Our first son was just like our grandson, our second son took a nap when ever got tired. it could be on the floor or ina regular bed which ever was the closest. when he was tired he just laid down. I covered him up and he slept for 2-3 hours. It all depends on the child some will do as they are told and some wont you just have to stick with it.
