MOMS of Children with Cleft Palates

There are many challenges to having a child with a cleft. It doesn't end at the time of repair. There is so much involved in their well being. I hope to share thougths and experiences with other Moms who are or have gone through this.

Milinda, I feel for you but you WILL get through it. How old is your daughter now. My daughter who is now six has been through SOOO many speech and hearing evals and is now receiving speech at her elementary school. The one she had before at a private school was horrible and we lost a whole year unfortunately. My daughter was born deaf due to build up of fluid and had tubes put in ears at only five months old and we are now on our third set, but they won't last and will have to get another set put in. The key is to find a GOOD therapist that knows about cleft palate. I remember back and several had no idea of the complications and challenges that go with speech for someone with cleft palate. I am hear if you need to talk and I empathize with you as I have been there myself!! Blessings, Kara T. Tamanini
