I would like to know do anyone have a child that has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder or Persuasive Developmental Disorder? My daughter was diagnosed with this condition about a year ago. I would like to know from other parents who have children that been diagnosed with this disorder and what techniques are they doing to improve this condition?

Hi Wendy,
I have a son who is now 11 who was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder when he was 3 years old.
He had a very strong Gag reflex, had sensitivity when brushing his teeth, and hated having a bed sheet next to his skin. Blankets were fine. He also once had a raging ear infection, but it didn't register pain with him. I had him with a Occupational Therapist once a week to treat this. He no longer required therapy when he was 9 years old. As far as the second problem I think you mean 'Pervasive Development Disorder'. My son also had that. It is a label they seem to hand these kids when they don't display most of the characteristics of say, Autism, or Asperger's. They may have one trait common to Autism, and another which is common to Asperger's. My son had a receptive learning disorder, where he had some difficulty understanding instructions. If you showed him, he had no problem whatsoever. We could never tell him to do more than 2 things at a time, because he just didn't 'get it'. He is going into Grade 6 now, and although he is slightly quirky, you would never know he is any different from the other kids at school. It was a regular regimen of speech therapy, and Occupational Therapy, and the additional Special Education through his elementary school which helped him
