If you were going to design a new piece of playground equipment that encouraged children to use their tactile, auditory, and visual senses, what would it look like and what would your child do with it? This is your opportunity to really impact playground design. There is a playground manufacturer that is going to make this—they want your ideas!!
So think beyond your normal thoughts of a playground with swings and things to climb on. With this new design, a child would go up to it and interact. Think about textures, sounds, materials, light, water, nature and more. Think about cognitive activities like they have on panels like tic, tac, toe or a finger maze—but make it more sophisticated. If you can’t think of anything in specific, share with me the types of activities your child enjoys using these senses.
All of your ideas will go directly into the hands of the playground designer (who has a child with autism). They will not be lost in any bureaucracy. So it is worth your time to give me your thoughts. I will share pictures of the completed design as soon as it is completed.
Thank you!
