twitter moms: the influential moms network

That's the question that is answered as part of an interview I recently had with twins book author, Joan Friedman, PhD - author of Emotionally Healthy Twins. Not only is Dr. Friedman a psychotherpist, but she is also a twin, and a mom of twins. Her qualifications make her an expert in the field of twin psychology.

Good article -- I hope to be able to find a good balance in raising my girls, maybe as a pair of individuals? I don't know. I know a girl who's parents raised her and her twin sister to be "individuals" so much so that they now hate each other as adults.....

Hopefully we can find the right mix and balance.

Well said, Angie. It's definitely a challenging balance. I liked how you said "a pair of individuals" - a unique way of putting it.

Great interview Shelby! Just had a chance to read it through. Dr. Friedman has such a unique point of view, considering that she was a twin herself.

Thanks, Kellie! It's definitely made me rethink some of the things that I do for my twins.

I've found that mine had very strong individual personalities from the moment they were born, so it's never been an option to treat them as a single unit. Of course, they are b/g so it might be harder if they were same sex or identical.

Hi everyone. I've been asked about twins and individuality many times, and have answered this and other twin questions on my authors blog. I hope you have a chance to check it out: http://abigailpogrebin.com/blog/dear-abby-of-the-day-what-if-my-twi...
