Last week I received amazing news. My daughter's teacher wants to enter her in a contest in winter. How can I be not excited about this. No expectations, just the anticipation that she's gonna have her first audience performance. I hope the same excitement for you ladies.

The past 2 weeks have been difficult. My little girl is regressing from lessons and practices. What disturbs me more is she's becoming more determined not to. She seem not to have fun anymore. How can I talk to her without being too pushy?

Good Evening Mommies!

I'm new here and a mom of a lil musician. We hope to learn some great things from you all!

Many parents start giving their children music lessons at an early age, and some evidence indicates that this training bolsters their math and problem-solving skills.
Music performance involves many cognitive, perceptual, and motor skills. Music also allows you to put a lot of emotion into what you play or sing.

I think by bringing out and exercising musical ability in children, can nurture the development of their intelligence.

Most of all, the joy of playing your favourite songs that you love on the piano, guitar, voice or any other instrument with your family and friends is the best part and can do wonders for lifting your mood.

The playdate/jammin session would be such a nice thing for my son. We have yet to find anyone his age that's interested in jammin and I have a feeling that soon we'll be at the garage band stage. He even wanted to post an ad in the newspaper, "Musicians Wanted". So cute... they need someone to play with in a fun way, aside from the lessons.

My neighbor's daughter came up to me and asked if she can play with my daughter and bring her violin too. I was so excited because I've been looking for something like this - a playdate/jamming afternoon. This should spice things up. It would be fun to her them play while I have my coffee. :D

Also want to let you guys know we do a family night on Sunday night.
We all play instruments, but it motivates our kids to practice for this special night. Each Sunday evening is : Jammin' Jammies night. We get everyone in their jammies and then play music of their choice together. The first few weeks were a little rough, but it is actually encouraging my kids to pick up their instruments and play together without prompting! What a joy to watch!
If you don't play instruments, you could still implement something like that, more like a Sunday eve. singalong, or a "performance evening". Set the stage for success, and don't use the time to critique or worry about form.....just enjoy your children as musicians and give LOTS of praise.
Good luck:)

Yeah, the assign's seem too boring for them and my kid would start fooling around. It can get into my nerves sometimes like "sit down!!!" in my head. What's funny is that when I tell her alright let's pack up and call it a night, that's when she starts getting serious and do it right. And then we finish, happy. (Kid, what took you so long eh? hehe)

Hi y'all. How's your summer coming along? "Practice jar" that's neat! It could work like a game too perhaps or add a pick for a treat, and kids do like surprises. Thanks Jen.

That's a very cool idea Jen! Maybe I'll add that to his regular lessons. Mine loves playing but oddly, never the assigned lessons!
