twitter moms: the influential moms network

This is the place to talk a little bit more about our children. My boys are now 14 and 10, and Konal, the 14 year old, has multiple disabilities. We have in home support from Arizona's behavioral health system and daily challenges juggling diet considerations, behavior management, his other issues, and my own health issues. I find my self using social media, such as twitter, as an escape system when things get overwhelming. Today would be a good example of an overwhelming day. I had the strange idea that we could actually get their room clean today.
Ha!

That behavioral health system sounds wonderful, wish California (Los Angeles) had something similar.
Actually, CA's used to be the better system. Arizona's is very fragmented and hit or miss. Because I am part of some mandated reforms and work in the system, we have seen more success in getting needed interventions. Autism falls under our developmental disabilities system. Konal is not diagnosed with autism and is too high functioning to receive services through our DD system even if he was. So, instead, we work hard to stay Medicaid eligible in order to receive Behavioral health services.

Excellent!

I am mom to four sons, three by the gift of adoption living with a variety of special needs...including cerebral palsy, autism (asperger's & PDD NOS), ADHD, fetal alcohol syndrome, asthma-allergies and food sensitivities. They are ages 13, 11 and 10. My son by birth is grown and lives on his own.

I blog at Slurping Life and 5 Minutes for Special Needs (a sister blog of 5 Minutes for Mom).

Looking forward to making friends and finding inspiration here.

Hello Ladies :) Im Tamara a WAHM to four children One 13 year old son with Bi-polar,ocd and traits of adhd, one 14 year old son with ADD, A 6 year old son with what I am thinking may be early onset childhood bi-polar, Its hard I'm trying really hard to not look to much in to things but he is acting the same way the older two were at this age so Doing a lot of journaling to see what is learned behavior and what is things he isn't really in control of. We are working on diet right now to see how that works with behavior. And a 4 year old daughter who at this point is just a typical girl with the bossy and moodyness :)

The mental health (so far from what I have found) services in this part of Washington stink so its a lot of having to do things on our own, and getting rude comments from the school because No one will help.

Anywhos, I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi! I'm MT.. I live in New Jersey (unfortunately HAHA!) at the Jersey Shore (I do love the beach!) and mama of 2 kids - one has special needs (autism) and his little sister is neurotypical - a little diva. I blog my crazy life, about autism, and about special diets - gluten/casein free & dairy free - dealing with food allergies, and vaccination choice. Looking forward to meeting you all! My blog is the Bon Bon Gazette

Hi everyone!

It's great to see this group over at TwitterMoms! I'm Karen and I'm a deaf mom to three deaf and hard of hearing kids ages 15, 12, and 10. Soon to be 15, 13 and 11. I run a non-profit organization in IL which is a state chapter of Hands & Voices and I'll soon be stepping down and becoming just a board member instead. I'm hoping that will free up time to... write!!
I started blogging two years ago and that lead to paid blogging gigs. I write at Disaboom, Parenting Squad, Chicago Moms Blog and soon to be Momlogic.
There's never enough time in the day. I'd like to start a campaign to add ten more hours in the day. Anyone with me?

Hi everyone!

My name is Paula. I have one daughter who is 11. She was born with a rare metabolic disorder called Maple Syrup Urine Disease. Because of this she follows a restricted low protein diet and drinks a medical formula. She has neurological damage due to the MSUD, so is in a cognitively impaired classroom and receives speech and occupational therapy.

Hello, My name is Pk. I'm mom to Samuel and Benjamin. Bj is 16, he has Tourette's Syndrome, OCD, auditory and visual processing disorders as well as sensory integration dysfunction. Add to that some allergies and other junk ..it's an interesting saga.

Samuel also has Tourette's and OCD, although it manifests completely different than Bj's. Samuel is 19 and a freshman in college.

Where Bj has significant learning difficulties, Samuel has been extremely gifted ... my best way of describing parenting has been to say it's like raising a swamp plant and cactus in the same planter.

Both with opposite and disparaging needs ...but in the same environment ..the balance not always achieved and chaos ensues ...

the result ...2 boys who love life and have managed good self esteem.

Don't ask me how ... luck of the draw!

Hi I'm Michelle,
I have two sons, 8 & 12. My 12-yr-old has ADHD, he's also got sensory issues and he's frighteningly smart. We bit the bullet and took the medication route 4 years ago. But that was too late for a bazillion behavioral issues which he's passed on to his younger brother - who doesn't have ADHD.
Happy to share things which have worked for me with others.
