twitter moms: the influential moms network

Hey, ladies

We went up to the school to start talking about my son's 504 plan today. My mom, me, the counselor, the teacher, and the school's special ed person that has worked with my son. Well, my mom is hell bent on him getting a laptop in class. So, she brought it up. The school had been thinking of him using a thumb drive, because it's not such an expensive loss if he manages to lose it/it gets stolen/etc. The teacher pointed out that he has shown a remarkable lack of responsibility when it comes to his possessions(I fully agree with her!), and my mother went OFF. Saying that she's tired of the teacher/school blaming HIM for everything, that he's ONLY a ten year old child with special needs, that it's the school's responsibility to help him and make sure that he keeps track of it. It is NOT the school's responsibility to babysit him.

So she gets up and starts yelling at them all. When the principal comes in, she tells him that he's completely incompetent and useless.

hmmmmmmmmm ok
yes its a laptop, but in this context its also a special needs adaptive device
is there no organization connected to the school that provides a such things? i always had a computer and never paid. when your young enough you can even get corprate "sponsership" cute kids with technology makes good PR for whoever provides the equipment. you might be surprised what a few well placed letter / email will do.
another option are programs like the 100 dollar laptop initiatives.. YES i know they are for 3rd world kids but my point is you can now find SERIOUSLY low cost laptops..made for children

hope y ou find something suitable for all parties
ST.
