twitter moms: the influential moms network

Hey, all --

I'm having a really hard time finding someone to evaluate my 3 YO son. We know something's up with him, and would like to secure appropriate services ASAP, but can't get into the Child Development Center in Morristown until 8/24! And my oldest son (has Aspergers) is already a patient there!

Does anyone know of any other hospitals or programs that provide full evaluations - but don't require a 6 month wait? It looks like St. Jospeh's in Paterson does, but I don't know anything about the hospital or the doctors.

We have, btw, done an evaluation with the school's child study team and will find out in 2 weeks if he's eligible for the preschool disabled program.

Thanks for your help!

Aimee

Well as long as you get the services from the school that is a huge start. My son (autism) has made amazing progress that I can't even put into words through our school systems's Infants and Toddlers program. As far as getting an eval you can probably go through your medical doctor. They are the ones that do the diagnosis. The school qualify's them for services, but you need a PhD to diagnose. So check with your doctor or surrounding doctors. Sorry I can't help more but we are in Maryland.

Thanks, Jean. The school's been great - I'm so grateful for their help and can't wait to get their reports. But I feel like we need help NOW, and I can't get any support or services without a dx. Even the psychologists who were so helpful with our oldest son are kinda lame in this situation. They haven't even asked to meet him yet...

Every day is a battle and I just feel like we're getting nowhere.

If you get your medical doctor to offer a primary diagnosis you should be able to get services started with the school now.
