Hi, My son age 7 has a diagnosis of PDD-NOS. We are trying to work on his repetitive questioning, and could use any tips/articles/links/blogs on the subject. Thank you.

Hey!! I am a licensed therapist with children and have seen alot of children over the years on the Autism Spectrum. No amount of discussion on your part is going to change his compulsion to ask the same questions over and over, it is part of PDD NOS. What I tell parents to do is, your 7-year-old is probably asking several or more questions over and over. Write the questions down on paper or poster board on something very colorful, bright color paper that is eye catching and post the questions he has AND the answer to the questions and put them all over the house. Post in his room, the bathroom, the fridge, wherever he will let you put them. It may not be real attractive, however I think you will save yourself some aggravation. You can't change his need to ask repetitive questions, it is like asking someone to stop blinking their eyes. Have faith!! My website is KidsAwarenessSeries.com, however I have not yet posted articles on the Autism Spectrum, that is my next book!! Kara T. Tamanini I really hope this helps you, if not let me know.

Individuals with ASD often have the problem of repetitive questioning (asking the same question over and over again). When my son used to ramble on and on I would tell him to please write down his questions and give it to me so I can write down my answer. Having something that visually answers his questions usually calmed him down. If I continually responded back in a logical manner it seldom stopped this behavior. He would just continue his questioning and sometimes the subject that he kept questioning about was not always what upset him in the first place.
