Okay, this will only sound like a weird discussion for those that don't have an embroidery business [or an embroidery machine for that matter]! The past several years I have tried to decorate Thanksgiving weekend like always. It just doesn't work at all ~ there just isn't time. The biggest part of my business is embroidery design, but all of my friends and neighbors know that I embroider, plus I help with overflow at the little boutique down the street, so I get flooded with embroidery work on top of my regular work. Anyway, my house ends up barely decorated and it really disappoints me ~ I LOVE all things CHRISTMAS! I've already started listening to Christmas music, so I may be ready to put away the CDs on 12/26 this year ;D

So, I was complaining last holiday season to a good friend of mine and she suggested that I decorate Halloween Night! Yes, I was taken aback too! She suggested I decorate in between handing out candy to the kiddos [and maybe sneaking a glass of wine or two]. As Halloween grows closer it sounds better and better. My hubby thinks I'm crazy! I'm already busy and it's just going to get crazy like always. I think I'm going to do it ~ what do you think?

I remember when I was growing up, I started playing Christmas music the day after Halloween! I used to love decorating for Christmas!! Nowadays, it seems that I never have enough time to get everthing decorated! I think I will start the day after Halloween this year! :-)

I actually start decorating my house the day after Halloween, but the tree doesn't go up until the day AFTER Thanksgiving. It actually seems to work out fairly well. If you could see how many boxes of decorations for Christmas that I have, you would be amazed.

This is the first year I'll actually decorate for Christmas. I used to work in a gift shop, and by the time I finished decorating the store for Christmas, I was burnt out of decorating at home. I think I'm going to actually decorate Thanksgiving weekend, if I can find all my stuff! LOL

And heck, the stores are decorated now for Christmas, why not at Halloween?? :)

I will usually decorate the first Saturday in December. I decorate the dining room and family room, these are the rooms we spend the most time in during the holidays. The front hall to make it festive for visitors. My daughters usually help me with the decorating and baking.

I don't think it would hurt trying it out this year. You're not signing a contract saying that you're going to do this every year. If it works out and you're not all Christmas-ed out before the 25th then it may be a good thing for y'all! Give it try!

As for us, we start decorating right after Thanksgiving. Usually there are several tree places set up so we can go and get a tree. Then we turn on the music, set out a smorgasboard (sp?) of snacks and decorate. We don't own too many decorations (too much to have to move every three years) so it doesn't take us that long. Stringing the lights on the tree takes the longest :)

Great ideas ~ thanks so much!! I think I'll start decorating on Halloween [it will make good use of my down time & be enjoyable]. I think I will wait until closer to Thanksgiving to put up the tree. Otherwise my neighbors may worry about me if they see my tree in the front window the day after Halloween! LOL!!!

My daughter is 15, so we're way past the toddler stages ;D Otherwise, this idea wouldn't work at all! My father-in-law is coming for Thanksgiving and I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it. He already thinks I'm a bit unconventional...

My sister-in-law is a very structured "decorate the day after Thanksgiving" & "take EVERYTHING down the day after Christmas" kind of girl. She won't listen to Christmas music after Christmas & can't understand how I can ~ I'm just never ready to stop until the middle of January or so. Since I've already started listening this year [I don't normally start this early!], I might be ready to put it away the day after this year. Elvis is playing right now ~ hard to beat Blue Christmas...Another fav is the Elf soundtrack - my very favorite Christmas song right now is Baby It's Cold Outside by Zooey Deschanel [her voice is amazing] and Leon Redbone.

WELL THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA IF YOU FEEL LIKE LOOKING AT ALL THE DECORATIONS FOR 2 MONTHS INSTEAD OF JUST ONE. I TOO LOVE CHRISTMAS AND CAN'T WAIT FOR HALLOWEEN AND THANKSGIVING TO BE OVER SO I HAVE A VALID REASON TO GET ALL THE REALLY NEAT, MEMORABLE AND CHARISHED CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS I HAVE ACCUMULATED OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS GIVE OR TAKE 1 OR 2... THIS CHRISTMAS IS GOING TO BE A REAL BLESSING AS WE HAVE OUR FIRST GRANDDAUGHTER TO SHARE IT WITH, WE HOPE ANYWAY...

IN YEARS PAST I DREADED THE HOLIDAYS BECAUSE OF SHOPPERS GOING CRAZY AND ME HAVING WORKED IN RETAIL AS I DID WAS REALLY HARD TO LOOK FORWARD TO THEM. HOWEVER THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE AWESOME, I HAVE MY OWN BUSINESS AT HOME AND I SET MY OWN HOURS, THATS THE COOL THING...I AM BOSS!!!

I THINK IF YOUR HEART IS IN IT THIS EARLY, I SAY GO FOR IT...DECORATE DECORATE AND DECORATE, HAVE FUN AND ENJOY ALL THE FAMILY MEMORIES YOU CAN. YOU DO HAVE 2 MONTHS TO CREATE MANY MORE THEN NORMAL.

HAVE FUN AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!!!

Hey Everyone ~ just wanted to give a quick update. I did bring up all of my Christmas decorations last night and started decorating! It was great. I had to stop hanging the garland on the stair railing [right inside the front door] to answer the door for trick-or-treaters and got a few strange looks from the kids. ;D

Did anyone else start?
