twitter moms: the influential moms network

I'm fairly new to on-line marketing. In fact I got into on-line marketing because of the marketing person I hired. I am a Certified Life Coach, with no marketing talent so I hired someone to help me. I am definitely getting a lot of traffic to my blog. So I'd like to start a discussion by sharing what's working for me...I blog 4-5 times a week. I blog about topics that pertain to coaching clients, I now twitter, I join discussion groups on blogging sites, I participate in them....

So, Tara, thank you for starting this thread. I didn't realize my request to start this group had been approved. LOL And now I see we have 45 members. Wow!

I'm curious to know how you track what is working for you. What type of help did you hire? Where did you find him/her? How does this person help you and in what specific areas?

Of the things you do that you listed, which have you found is the most effective and why? How much time, on average, do these techniques take you?

Anything else you'd like to answer that I haven't asked? *grin*

Thanks again for getting the ball rolling.

You hired a coach. There is a lot of coaches and mentors that share information for free.

I posted this on Savvy Business Moms for a similar question, so I'll repost it here.

We begin by online marketing...since we are an online business. But, we are branching out and finding much "fruit" in offline marketing as well. I've often heard that the 'fortune is in the follow up'. I have to agree. We are extending our follow up compaigns to pick up "money left on the table".

Our online marketing mostly consists of email marketing, SEO, and testing our webpages to see what really works. In other words not guessing or listening to what we're told. Actually looking to see what works for people to opt in or buy.

Our offline marketing is direct mail & telephone marketing. Both of these are trackable. In my opinion, if you can't test & track it isn't worth doing because you don't know what your results are.

Hi,
Thank you all for giving such vital information. I'm fairly new to online marketing and I am really putting a lot of effort into Social Network marketing through sites such as Facebook, Myspace and I've recently joined Twitter. Can someone tell me effective ways to market my site/business online and also through social sites and blogs? Also, does anyone know where to find a coach or mentor that's offering free information in this area?

BTW: How do you find your target audience to market to?

When you start with social media, you need to add value to the groups you join. As you add value (or helpful tips), you can start to tell each group about what you do or add a url.

One of the most important things you should do from the start is collect first names & emails. This will be your list that you can use to send promotions. When you collect emails, be sure you have someone's permission to put them on your list. Here's a page I use to collect names of homeschool moms for our homeschool site.

Nothing so far has been effective for me, but you are saying, Tara, that you get a lot of traffic to your blog. I'm going to borrow some of what you say you are doing! I read today that in blogging, it's all about content. So far, my only content is the article I write a couple times a week (that's on a good week!).

The key for me is picking a few key strategies that fit with my interests and strengths and then doing them consistently. This can be a challenge, because I tend to get attracted to all the bright shiny objects--it can be more fun to try something new. I love to write so I blog and article market and publish an e-newsletter. I also blog for other sites and write a column for a print magazine. I periodically offer free teleseminars. These have been a fun and effective way to build my list.

I just posted this link in another post, but http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com is a good place to start. Last August, Ed Dale suggested that participants start their own site with their own domain name. He also advocated wordpress direct. I would be really careful with that part - but another storyline for that area!

For beginners, thirty day challenge is great. I am not sure if 2007 information is available online, or not. That is the year Ed included social bookmarking and different web 2.0 properties.

I have learned just by watching the videos that are put out by some of the marketers, or by following some of the newsletters. If Stompernet puts out a video - watch it! They charge a monthly fee of around $800. But, the videos they occasionally release to the public are always worth watching. Andy Jenkins always provides tons of information. (In case anyone is wondering, no I do not belong to Stompernet.)

There are numerous marketing forums online. Google it and you find tons. I have a few favorites. And then there are some excellent blogs that offer tons of information. Jeff Johnson has the Underground Training blog. He also has plenty of vids on youtube.

If you want more names, let me know. For now, I will stop here so I don't bore everyone to death.

I have been doing a few posts here this morning on Twitter Moms about the 30 Day Challenge. The course is a free step by step on line course designed by Ed Dale who teaches and explains the steps for success in internet marketing. This is not the first time I have done the course, every time i do it, I learn something new, and Ed spends allot of time on social marketing and how to incorporate it into you business (he is a real tech and gadget guy) Take a look, see what you think http://tinyurl.com/5fcnl7 I have requested to start a 30 Day Challenge Group here on twittermoms, were we can share experiences-waiting to hear back .
Enjoy the day.

Carmen,
Looks like we have learned/learning form the same guys, I call them my "boyfriends." I figure the time I have spent reading their courses, email, dvds and now videos, let alone the money I have spent, they can at least let me call them my boyfriends.

I am curious, doesn't sound like you liked the wordpress direct idea. Do you mean the .com or .org. I am just putting up a blog, really two and am using wordpress.org and am also putting up a social sites with ning.

Hi Gwenn,

WordPressDirect is a commercial package. It is not the same as wordpress.com or .org - I am talking about a package that TDC is "recommending". I use wordpress and love it. It has been an uphill climb for sure - learning which plugins to use, how to figure out if your template has garbage code in it, etc.

WordpressDirect is a blogging package that supposedly goes out and collects data. It then publishes the data on your blog for you. One of the biggest things that bothered me - due reference was not given to the site where the information originated.

I had other issues with it, too.

Also, WordPress Direct charges for its services after one free blog, if I remember correctly. They have different packages. But, I think the monthly fees can run from 67 to 97 a month with at least 15 blogs being filled with content. I didn't like it at all.

Wordpress.org is also great for a free blogging platform to link to your original site. From what I understand, Google likes wordpress blogs almost as much as hubpages.

And, please don't hear me wrong, I love Ed Dale and thirty day challenge. I learned a great deal through the last two challenges. I felt very fortunate that I had discovered him in 2007. I just felt like I found this huge bowl of chocolate!

But, I really question the whole WordPress Direct relation.

These are the coaches and mentors that I need to find. I'm already on a tight budget. Start up is killing me (website development and all that goes with it) the last thing I can afford is to pay yet another person.
