I just bought my first dSLR to fool around with and have been having a really fun time playing around with it. however, I'm ready to take my photos to the next level...Which program is better for a newbie photographer: splurging on CS4 or the cheaper photoshop elements? Is it better to just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy the more expensive version?
No need to splurg...it's a HUGE difference in cost! Photoshop Elements has plenty for you to play and learn with, especially once you learn how to install actions.
I know CS4 Photoshop is expensive, but it is worth every penny. I have both CS4 Photoshop and Elements 6 and there is so much more that you can do with Photoshop and the workspace is more user friendly.
That being said, I am a techie geek and do a lot of design work in addition to my photography so photoshop has always worked better for me. If you are just starting out, and just want to learn the ropes then Elements would be fine, but if you want to get really serious, Photoshop.
Thanks Anna for asking such a good question. I just upgraded to a new DSLR myself so tht I can take my photography to the next level and have been contemplating what to get. I think I am just going to get Elements for editing photos and then I am going to get Lightroom 2.0 for processing my RAW images. I have a program that came with my camera for RAW but I don't like it as well as Lightroom.
