I have a poetry journal. It's actually in Word on my computer. I also make notes in a notebook with all of my other writings. Sometimes it is easier to write a poem on paper than it is to write it on the computer.

I am thinking that I should start a notebook that is just for poetry.

1. What do you think? Should I (Synolve) have my own separate poetry journal (notebook)?

2. Do you have a poetry journal?

3. What's in it?

1. I think it helps to have a sperate poetry journal. I have one I keep by my bedside. Although usually when something comes to me I'm at a drive-thru window or on a road trip and scribble thoughts on napkins and coasters. I keep them in my wallet and put them in my journal when I return home. It has been a while since I have done this. I'm not alone to think much anymore... enough to complete a creative thought, sadly.

However I noticed, looking back, that my poetry is rather "dark & twisty" or slightly morbid from my younger days. I have decided to keep a journal to record positive daily things about my girls growing up, like cute words they say as they are learning each other's names and funny things they have said and done. The 1 rule is that it is to give to them one day and is to be 100% positive. No bad things. Zero. It has affected me positively. You cannot keep that up and not start looking at the glass as half full!

Yes! Poetry deserves it very own notebook. I use a three ring binder - probably because that is what I started using as a very young poet. It still is what feels comfortable. I write in a regular notebook for my journal and I always carry a little notepad with me to scribble inspiration that I used either for poetry or blogging.

On the run now but when I get a chance I'll answer #3 with what is in it.

Sounds like you want to have your own poetry journal. I have small notebooks that go in my purse that have flowers on the cover. When I'm done with one I just slip the other in my bag. That way if inspiration hits I can just write whatever I'm thinking. That's been a while since I've pulled it out though.

{Computer} There are some novel writing programs that contain journals. I'm using one now. I considered doing the freewrite in the mornings using that journal and the "morning pages" concept by Julia Cameron. I don't know if it will work, I am pretty random. (And I've learned to accept that about myself, lol.)

{Constant Writing} I have a poetry group that I'm working with though and on our next meeting we're going to do 30 days of poetry with a reg notebook and a set of writing prompts Of course there will be pages in the notebook that we can use to go off topic. Just an idea.

Oh yes! I have several poetry journals all over my house! I have one for drafts of poetry and one for finished products and of course the scraps of paper when inspiration hits.

A place to write your poetry is a must!
