My girls love all their Nutcracker movies so this year I am hoping to start off and make it an annual tradition. I would love to hear peoples favorites too!

Hey, Portland Moms, I'm an older (48) single mom of a tween, also a small biz owner. We live in Sellwood. My daughter is into theater and dance. i used to be a musician but don't know when I'll have time for it again. I love my kid more than anything and spend most of my free time with her and / or doing things for her. Between her and my business I have little or no time for myself. What happened to my life? I know I'll get it back some day and I'll miss these years of intense togetherness (probably sooner than I think as she is moving quickly into teendom) but I'm really feeling the lack of personal time. Date? What's a date? Grown up movie? Hanging out with a friend for more than 20 minutes without getting a text or call? It's been forever since I've experienced any of this.

I invited my daughter's friend from SF to spend the summer with us, which has helped out a lot in that they keep each other occupied. I also love this other kid like she's my own. Now I just have to get them to let me have an uninterrupted hour to read or talk on the phone or answer email. That shouldn't be too much to ask for! The only alone time I seem to get, however, is when I'm cleaning or taking care of the garden (they truely disappear then).

Thanks for letting me vent. I can't wait to read more about you all and find out what Portland moms are doing.

cool! I have a personal facebook page too - never done it for our music but I think I will check it out...I will definitely let you and Ruby know when our next show is!

Steph, you should totally do a Facebook fan page. I've never had a myspae, so I don't get it.. but I love fb!

I wish we could do music at that time, but i suspect Ruby would just be a melty mess. We usually do dinner at 5:30 and start getting ready for bed at 6:45.... any later and she's up at 5 am. ouch!

I'd love to attend another show... keep us informed!

I have a 3-year old too:) we have found shows at the airplay in the afternoon to be pretty neat because it exhausts the kids right before bed! awesome! So I am working on a website for the kids band stuff, but you can check out some of our stuff here - www.myspace.com/zeitgeist - I have uploaded a few of our kids songs there and you are welcome to take a listen - I will update everyone when I get the real sire together - which could take a while considering my web "skills".

Hi Steph, can you tell us some more about your band? That's not a good time for us, as my 3 yr old goes to bed at 7 pm, and anything after 5 pm is meltdown central.
