twitter moms: the influential moms network

Hi I have a beauitful 9 month premmie. She was 3 months early,She stayed in the nicu for a little over 3 months. She is doing great now! I did give here shots up to now I am very scared to give her anymore. I did some research on autism and premmies. They are more likely to get autism than a "normal" child. I will still vaccinate my child .Space it out one shot at a time . (It is a mommys gut feeling sometimes you have to listen to your inner you.) any comments to help my fear or agree with it?

Hi Raquel. I have a little boy who will be 3 on July 5th. He was a 25 weeker and was 1 pound 12 ounces when he was born. Because he came home during flu and cold season, he was given the Synagist shot monthly. Since we were going monthly, the doctor's office was able to space out his immunizations. I think this was a good thing and he has done well. I've never had an issue with him getting his shots.

I now have a 7 month old who we were blessed to make it to 38 weeks. He on the other hand has not felt well after getting his shots and has run low grade temps for about 2 days after getting his shots. I told the doctor the last time I wasn't thrilled about doing them all together. I was told that for the 9 month rounds there aren't as many. I believe he is also finished with getting the ones that are more likely to cause the low grade temps and fussiness.

I'd say if you feel it is beneficial to space out the shots then do it. You know your child better than anyone. Go with your gut. Especially since you know how she has already handled her previous shots.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions as time goes on. It has been helpful over time for me to have other preemie parents to talk to. Best of luck to you.
