Both of my little ones were preemies due to my health conditions. My oldest is now 7 and was born at 35weeks. He was rather healthy though only needing to have care for yellow jaundice. My youngest daughter is 3 now and she is a fighter. She was born at 34 weeks weighing in at 3 lbs 7oz and was fully developed, thank God. Her main issue was she needed a feeding tube until she was ready for the bottle. All in all they both stayed in the hospital for two weeks each. Looking on them now you would never know they were preemies.

I have three daughters and the only one that was not a preemie was the last. They finally decided I needed bedrest after 2 were born preemies. Anyway my first was born at 34 weeks and weighed 4lb. 15oz and only spent one extra day in the hospital. She is going to be 9 next week and SUPER smart! My middle was born at 30 weeks and spent 6 weeks in the NICU she actually came home 4 weeks before her due date. She weighed in at a whopping 4lbs 1oz! She had to stay in so long becuase she could not feed from my breast, she could not maintain her body temp and she could not go without having bradys and apneas. She was due in Feb but was born in Nov. She came home 5 days before Christmas.

My oldest daughter was born at 35 weeks and spent a little over a week in the NICO due to a brain bleed from traumatic delivery. She is a healthy 7 yrd. My Youngest was born at exactly 36 weeks spent the first few days in the NICU with sugar issues, then a week in a nearby NICU for respiratory distress off and on seeing specialist about her lungs, throat, and heart and was recently diagnosed with IGF-1 Deficiency. She is now 2yrs.

Hi there.

My son was born at 29wks 6days and he weighed 3lbs 2oz. He was in NICU for almost 5 weeks. He came home February 5th and his due date was March 15th...not bad. He removed his breathing tube at 2 days and was put on a nasal cannula at that point. Stayed on the cannula til two days before he came home. Fortunately, our stay in the hospital was pretty smooth. He had a bit of jaundice and developed SVT (super fast heart rate) just before leaving the hospital. He had horrible reflux until about 10 months. He is now almost 15months and completely healthy. I thank God for my little miracle.

My story is a long one and I have started blogging (just started) if you would like to read about it.

26 week boy twins. Angel DS spend 1 week, survivor DS spent 4 months in the NICU. He would have come home sooner but he had so many surgeries and was repeatedly intubated and extubated, and had lots of gut problems. Home for a month, then back in the hospital for a month with chilous acites - PICU 1 week, baby/toddler floor three weeks. I won't get into the other hospitalizations during the first 4 years of life. You know the drill. (No RSV, fortunately)

Survivor is now 6 years old. We just visited the NICU and he met his primary nurse. We have been explaining to him that he was born early and he lived at the hospital for a long time, but now when he went, he looked, listened, saw, and could understand the concept. (He told others about his visit, so this is how I know he understands.) His General Surgeon was rounding at the time so that was kind of cool that DS and the surg could see each other. DS is doing so well. At birth, he was 14" long and 2 lbs., and now he's tall (size 7/8 shirt, size 6 pants,) and heavy - 49-50 lbs. And, oh chatty! He was telling everyone all about Wii Mario Cart.

The other thing that was fun was that everyone was able to see our DD, who was three at the time of DS' NICU stay. She is 9 now, and I don't know how much she remembers. Thank goodness for pictures.

My first born did not have to go to NICU at all. He was a little over 5lbs, and was just fine. My 2nd born was in NICU for a little over a week.

My little guy was born septic at 32 weeks. He was born shortly after 11am on a Friday and at 3am Saturday we were awakened by the nurse practitioner and were told that he wasn't going to survive and we should get to the NICU to say goodbye. When we got to his bedside, he was the color of a manila folder. An angel (in the form of the neonatologist on duty that particular evening) asked if he could give him nitric oxide as a very last resort- he'd never tried the treatment on a baby that young, but there weren't any other options left. 15 miraculous minutes later our baby was pink! He stayed in the NICU for a month and was on every form of jet ventilator, tube, med, etc. He is now 7 months old (5 adjusted), completely on schedule developmental-wise, babbling, drooling/teething and the most amazing little kid ever! (But you all know that from your own experiences, of course!) =)
