I received an email recently asking for my stories about how the lack of health care has affected me. I know I have been un-insured since 2006 when Missouri decided to cut it's medicaid coverage. I was working two jobs at the time but I was unable to afford what my employer would have charged for health-care coverage. I am wondering as this affected many other single moms and if so I hope you would be willing to share your story. You can read mind at http://syinlysweblog.net/?p=1715
This was a huge problem for me too, as my last full-time employer had excellent health care coverage and I choose a PPO plan for me and my son. Unfortunately, once there was a 10% cut in the sales staff, nationwide the COBRA insurance was $1300. a month. Based on their "rules and regulations" you had to keep the exact same coverage that you had while employed, no changes or downgrades could be made. I was only able to continue the COBRA for 5 months and then had to let it go. I still take my son to his old pediatrician and pay out of pocket, however, my own annual medical exams have not taken place due to the cost. I also suffer from chronic migraines and the medicines I take preventatively and FOR the headaches is HUGELY expensive and only one has a generic (that doesn't work for me). For example, one box of Imetrix pills (9 pills) is $315. out of pocket. I typically go through 18 pills a month! Not to mention the other meds, I sometimes have to go without and then I end up sick for days!
I would really welcome some ideas and HELP!!! Especially as I am now running my own business.
