Tired of finding the entire contents of your children's lunches in their lunch boxes at the end of the day? I spent many frustrating evenings throwing out expensive lunches and wondering what my children ate to sustain themselves throughout the day. What I found was that lunches, like fashion, is a trendy deal. Kids like to see what other kids have in their lunch boxes, and they often trade and share treats with one another. So, let your children choose what they pack in their lunches. By setting up some ground rules, you'll be relinquishing the lunch box duty to your children in no time.
To get started, tell them that there has to be a protein, vegetables, fruit, and carb as a base, and then they can have one treat. Then, let them set up their weekly menus and make requests for items at the grocery store. Each night after dinner, they can fill their lunch boxes with the non-perishable items and put the others in the fridge so they can add them in the morning. When they're in charge of what they stock in their lunch boxes, you'll be happy to find empty lunch boxes at the end of the day!
