I am trying to start my own website and I need to know if anyone has done that before and if so if you know a user friendly place to start a website that doesnt take FOREVER to load pictures up when you go to look at the site.

are you wanting an e-commerce site or a regular website? Don't forget you can always make a Wordpress site look like a regular site by some customization. The cool thing with using WP is that you already have RSS built (for getting regular updates) in and there are hundreds of themes already made for free and as well lots of plugins/widgets that you can add in there as well.
If you are using an e-commerce system, I'd recommend using ZenCart and just purchasing a theme to customize it as your own. It's a lot easier and less time to get up and running, not to mention you'll save yourself a lot of money.
