If it's true, that bugs me. I thin Eclipse, and most definitely Breaking Dawn will need to be over PG13 if they truly want to stay close the book. I honestly think there's no better way to portray those two books the right way in a PG13 format.
Not surprised really. The books only allude to the sexual experience......and we all love those. PG-13 movies still carry alot of sexuaI innuendo and a portion of violence. Alot of the story has to do with tension among the characters, both sexual and violent. I think it could be tastefully done and still have the romance level and scary violence that we want. Alot of those emotions were experienced in the Twilight movie by facial expressions and tortured and longing looks.
Some things are better left to the imagination, and graphic love scenes are not what Bella and Edward's relationship is all about. I would hate to see a whole section of Stephenie's fan base cut out of the movie because it is rated R. I have friends who have enjoyed the series with their teenager and pre-teen daughters and are looking forward to sharing the movies with them. I am looking forward to sharing the same with my 13 year old son (who loves the saga, the first movie and is looking forward to New Moon).
I think you can allude to sexual things but not actually show it and still have it be PG-13. The birth scene, however, I'm not sure how they're going to dumb that down. It was graphic to begin with, when it was only text. Between the throwing up a fountain of blood, to Bella's spine breaking, to Edward having to use his own teeth to deliver the baby, it was all graphic. I'm hoping between a good screenplay & an awesome cinematographer, they'll be able to pull off what might be one of the hardest "book to movie" transitions I've ever seen. :D
The birth scene is why I see it dificult in making it less than rated R. I just finished Eclipse again, and that could be done PG13. Breaking Dawn? I'm not so sure, it's going to have to be some excllent writing.
I dont know about you guys, but I've seen some fairly graphic PG-13 movies lately that seemed much more gory and sexy than what they were in the past. I think it could be done PG-13 and still be good. But I dont know. I'm anxious to see what they do with Eclipse because there is a LOT more sexual tension and things in that, what with Bella trying to nail Edward everytime they're together and all, lol. Really...the book Breaking Dawn was "fade to black" a lot of the time, which I think is what made it so good for both it's teen and adult audiences. The teens/tweens didnt get too much, and we got just enough to let our imaginations run wild, lol. My concern is that they'll realize that they wont be able to fit all that is in Breaking Dawn into one movie, and either cut A LOT out, or do what they're doing with Harry Potter and make it into two movies. So...I dont know. It's going to be interesting because Breaking Dawn is going to be an impossibly difficult movie to make, so I dont know right now how I feel about it. I just hope they dont ruin it, lol!! I guess I'll see what they do with Eclipse and go from there...
