Just Curious. Anyone taken the ICE wine plunge?

  • Rating: No Rating
We (hubby and I) are in no way 'rich', but on a whim and it was our anniversary, we found a bottle of ICE wine, had about 1 full Glass in it I believe it was $30.. Came in a very tall tube shaped / glass bottle corked. We shared it half a glass each. It was like drinking liquid sugar to me. I like sweet (Moscato) but not that sweet.

FYI: Ice wine, it's a dessert wine, and is when the grapes FREEZE and normally have to be thrown away. and Someone figured out that you could still make wine from it. It's very expensive gourmet wine. lol

Heck yeah, I've taken the plunge! But you're right-its pricey! I save it for special occasions, that way its even sweeter to drink!

Absolutely, but only with dessert or rich cheeses. It's delightful with that pairing, but I think it would be tough to handle as the main event.

My brother used to sell a German version of the ice wine (I call it raisin wine since the grapes are like raisins w/ all the sugar before pressing), and it was reasonable and delicious! If it's a dessert wine you can't live without, look to the German brands, as they may be less expensive than the California or New York wines.

Cheers!

Hubby and I tried it a few years ago. It was way too sweet for my tastes. I don't like my wines to be too sweet so you can imagine that I didn't like it LOL hubby did however.
