So today I have given Angelica some baby rice. She looked a little funny at times, but all in all I believe it was a success. There was none left, although some of it did end up around the mouth rather than in it, in her hands where she had tried to grab the spoon and then obviously down the bib! I decided to try today after one of my friend's 15 month old little boy tried to give her one of his raisins yesterday (so cute) and she was all ready for it, mouth wide open the lot. Now, whether this is because everything goes in the mouth at the moment I don't know, but she did not seem to hate the rice at all, so will continue I think. She must have been satisfied, she had a nice little nap after.

Only thing is, I feel a little bad for DH, as when I called him and told him I was trying it he was a little sad he was missing out on it, so now I think maybe I should have left it until the weekend, but we've discussed it before and he has never seemed very keen on trying yet and I know if I had left it he would have ended up talking me out of it, so one of the main reasons for doing it when he was not here. But I can't help feeling bad for him for missing out on one of her development milestones. So I took a pic on my phone with the rice all around her chops and sent it to him to try and make up for it.

I am also concerned that I may have done it for the wrong reasons, my curiosity more than anything, as she has always seemed okay with just her milk (I was exclusively BF, obviously until today), but I have no idea how much she has been getting.

She will be 20 wks on Wednesday.

Bit of a long one, sorry, guess I just wanted to tell someone all about it.... Lol!

It's lovely when they start to try solids. 20wks shouldn't be too bad at time to start her off and she obviously enjoyed it. Mine liked the rice and then went on to mashed banana with fromage frais or yoghurt.

Hi

I was very interested to read your post as I've been thinking of trying my little one on some baby rice. He's 21 weeks. May give it a go tomorrow!

Yeah - go Angelica! I'm planning on trying Emily in a week or two, so she gets started before I go back to work. Fingers crossed, eh!

Needed to either start solids or start weaning from boobies otherwise it was all going to end up happening at the same time ready for me to go back to work and I don't think my stress levels could handle all that change together let alone what Angelica might make of it all!

That's good. Day 2 for us has not been quite as successful, didn't seem to want it. Didn't cry or pull a face or anything like that, just didn't seem interested. Didn't seem to like the spoon much, seemed happier to take it off my finger, which is not really the point I guess. Oh well, we'll get there eventually I'm sure.
