This where I would like EVERYONE to introduce themselves.

If we are going to connect, encourage and support we need to know a bit more about you and what you what to bring to the table.

I will start and you can go from there! :0)

Hello WAHM's my name is Cheryl Hill. I am a former elementary teacher but several years back decided and felt a need to be home with my first baby girl.

At first as a WAHM I cleaned motel rooms, tutored, and babysat, but that really didn't give me the time to be HOME where I wanted to be.

It was then that I found my Home Business and have never looked back. It gives me the freedom to be ME but at home with the girls and help out financially!

I have a passion for helping other moms reach their dreams and be at home too and I am drawn to the computer and out and about to connect with other moms. I guess as a teacher being a team leader is also a passion and one that I enjoy as well!

Ted and I have been married for 10 years and have two beautiful girls who are 5 and 2. So life, business, girls, and my husband keep me busy but something I LOVE doing and enjoy life!

I also like to READ, GARDEN, and BE OUTSIDE! I look forward to connecting and meeting all of you.

Hi all, my name is Jean. I am a WAHM of 2 boys.

My 2 1/2 year old is on the Autism spectrum and I also have a 6 month old. Working from home is a must with my son's therapy schedules.

My husband is active duty Army so we are away from "home" right now.

I was a Kindergarten teacher for 6 years before having my first son but just couldn't go back to work after having him. I tried working at a daycare and bringing him but I didn't like the care he was getting and was making nothing after paying tuition. That was when I found the team I work with now. And by the end of this year I will match my former teaching salary! Never thought it could be done!

I am just so thankful for my family and being able to spend everyday with my boys.

Hi! I'm a wife and mother of 3 boys. I own BabysitEase of Southeastern Virginia. We specialize in finding, interviewing, background checking and reference checking babysitters over 18 and connecting them with families.

I also work part-time as a bookkeeper.

Our family stays pretty busy! Our 9 year old plays baseball, basketball and football. Needless to say we are ALWAYS going! We also have a 20 month old who is a surviving twin born at 28 weeks. He's our fighter! I think since he has started to walk he's forgotten how to sit down!

I look forward to developing friendships through this site.

Hello all,

I am a mother of 4 one of whom is about to graduate high school next Tuesday! I'm still trying to soak that in LOL! I've been back home after a short stint working with the in laws. I'm drawn to design and fresh ideas for things we use everyday. So after nearly 20 years of talking about it I finally decided to start a gift basket site so I can enjoy being creative and contribute to society in a meaningful way. My site offers gift baskets for every occasion at a great value. I am dedicated to supporting charities that are doing great work within communities worldwide. My site will choose a new charity each month and commit to donating a minimum of 10% of profit for the month to the charity. The better we do the more we give. There is one day left to decide on the charity we will support in June. There is a poll posted on the site so please visit the site scroll down and take part in this months poll, there are 4 worthy charities nominated. Thanks all!

Hello! I am a mom of two young kids -- 5 and 3 and they have kept me very busy the last few years. I have had my own business for 11 years now - www.cataluna.com - and that business has allowed me to work out home.

The kids have been in daycare/preschool 3 days per week - that has made working really easy. They will now be at home full time all summer - so things will be changing.

I have just started a new venture - combining web sites and Shutterfly. So hopefully that goes well.

Thanks for welcoming me here and I will see you on the web!

Hi JennK. I know you posted this back in September but I just got around to reading the posts. I see that you are a writer of books. That's great. If someone wanted to write a book can you give any advice on how to get the book published?

JennK said:
Hi, everyone! It's been interesting reading everyone's introductions -- each of us works from home, but in such a wide range of fields!

I'm Jenn, homeschooling my 12yo boy/girl twins (who're soon to become teenagers, yikes!). I work from home as a writer. I write books on software applications, graphics, and web design for several major publishers -- the huge tomes you find in the Computers section at the bookstore. I also write contemporary romance novels.

My career allows me a lot of scheduling flexibility, which works well with homeschooling. I never have to work at a specific time and only rarely have meetings or even phone calls. Most of my communication with my editors is via e-mail. On the other hand, I'm almost always under deadline, and trying to juggle everything means I don't get a lot of downtime to just curl up with a book or work on a craft project. Right now, I'm working on a book under a tight production schedule, so I've been pulling a lot of all-niters. I'm starting to feel like a vampire!

Sheila, publishing is the (hopeful) culmination of a whole lot of work. The best advice I can give to an aspiring writer is to work at it. You need the dedication to apply tush to chair on a regular basis. You need the introversion to be able to work in a social vacuum. You need the commitment to hone your writing skills, to read books about the craft, take classes, and/or simply analyze your work from a craft standpoint. You need the ability to look at your work critically and make changes -- and be able to accept criticism from others, as well (especially editors and agents, who are rarely as diplomatic as your critique partners). You need to read A LOT, not just in your chosen genre but widely.

Once you get to the point of submitting, the process can vary depending on what you write. You generally want to get an agent first. An agent has the contacts and negotiation skills to get you a better contract. An agent also handles the business end for you so your relationship with your future editors can focus on the writing itself. You can learn about reputable (and find warnings about disreputable) agents on sites such as Absolute Write. If you decide to try to submit without an agent, you'll want a copy of Writer's Market and a lot of patience!
