Hi working moms. I am a single mom of a 3 year old boy. I have been working full time since my son was 17 months old. I have worked for this company for 8 years and have been worked my way up to a management position. Its great but they require us to work up to 50 hrs a week!!! I don't have a lot of time with my son and weekends are so crazy all I do is rush rush rush. I wonder sometimes if I made the right choice. I miss so much and I am a nervous wreck most of the time. I just want my son to be happy.

Hi Everyone! I Left my job 4yrs ago, just to stay home and raise my children. I missed out on my first two ,my mother helped me raise them , while i worked. I did maintenance work in manhattan. wakeing up early coming home after 4pm It was tough.but she was my rock. Then my third one came along and i worked until i was 8 mths. Then after i had her 3 mths later i went back to work, again the grandma took care of her,by the time the fourth one came i decided i should stay home, i was missing out on alot first words first steps. School trips and my mom started getting ill. she started forgetting the simpleist things.my mom suffers from dementia its a form of alzhimers. At first i didn't understand, but I do thank god. Anyway ,I stayed home and also had my last child he is now 2. I love every moment spend with them. I 've learned everyones likes and dislikes i get to put them to bed, watch them play together. I even volunteered in my daughters catholic school. I do door duty . We do cake sales and other events. I even take the little ones with me ,they enjoy being in school. We attend family mass on sunday morning its just agreat feeling.
But now after all this i'm returning to work . My boss called me back thankgod, I need to socialize with adults .I need me time. So i'm off to work this week. I'm happy but sad at the same time. wondering what can go wrong. Is my mother going to be ok are the kids going to be ok. I guess all these feelings are normal, but yet overwhelming. Looking forward to chatting.

I've worked outside the home all my adult life (30 years) all for the same company. Not to mention the full time job I still have at home. I have and am raising 8 boys. I have 4 of my own and 4 step-sons. They range in age from 35 - 7. Seems like it never ends! Looking forward to chatting!

I had heard about the book Womenomics by reporters Claire Shipman and Katty Kay and listened to an extensive interview with them on NPR this morning. Sounds like a great resource for those of us who are looking for strategies to successful negotiate flex-time and other work balance issues.

Hi all, new to the group!
My son is 2.5 yrs old. Has been with a nanny or in daycare since he was 4 mos. old. I've been working part time and going to school, but all of a sudden I'm starting to feel real guilty. I really feel I should be home with him and raising him myself. We're thinking about number 2 and I will probably stay home once that happens, but I need some good vibes. I don't want to regret that I missed my son's childhood. Help!
