coloquial phrasing and discipline
I tell my daughter to "knock it off" when she does something that either annoys me - one of the worst sins imaginable in my world - or which I find inappropriate. I say, "knock it off, sweetness." I want her to know that it is her action and not her being that is being corrected. I've gotten some 'looks' for this language but it works for our family. I know this because my daughter and I hug each other often - even after a correction is made.
