We had one Get to know your sisters. You write down a bunch of questions and cut them into strips. and at the activity you split into even tables and you lay a hand full of questions on each table and you rotate tables so everyone goes to each tab...

Hey Becky--I wanted to let you know that I joined a Mom's group on MeetUp that is really great! I believe it is called "Chester County Working Moms". They have at least 2 live meet-ups most weeks. Check it out!

Winter is tough. My oldest loves the "bouncy" places. We usually go to Moonbounce Adventures, behind West Goshen park. They have a toddler area with toys and things to climb on. I think kids under 2 are free. Sometimes we'll go to the indoor play area at Exton Mall, and we signed up at the new YMCA when it opened, so we usually go there at least once on the weekends. Activites for a 14 month old is tough, though...

Hi Becky! No, I'm not from West Chester. We moved here about 6 years. We lived in Media for 3 years before that, and we are originally from MD. I love West Chester, too! I'm so happy here. How old is your son? My boys are 4 yrs and 6 mos.

Oh, I think you're making lots of sense here, Becky. And I think that one reason I do so
appreciate the unschooling is that I can just be mom, a learner, walking alongside
my child as, for this time period, we journey on a very similar path.

Amazing what and how fast she learns when she is the one choosing her own steps.
It's fun to be along for the ride :)

Weird food prep? I invite you to take a peek at Nourishing Moms, a friend just started it about
3 days ago and invited me to join her. Basically, I choose to go back to what was once traditional around the world, so is considered 'weird' today - "culturing" fruits/veg/meat/dairy, etc. I'll share as much info on THAT as you like. But only if you want it!

Blessings...

So good to hear your thoughts on this, Becky.

If I could encourage you to read John Holt's books, I certainly would. I think they
would enrich any parent. I don't know that there is an answer to creating public
schools that meet every student's needs, etc. You are right, there are some not
so good teachers out there, I'm afraid the majority :/

I agree strongly with you about wanting my children to learn, not just to regurgitate
facts!

Not sure what you mean about separating ourselves from being a mom and being
a teacher. Could you say more?

Yes, great that you've got plenty of time to explore your options.

Blessings!

Thank you, Becky. My new year is going great, so far!

I appreciate the discussion posts in the groups, too. Such a good atmosphere.

I homeschooled my first 4 and, frankly, was quickly disillusioned with it. I wanted my children to love learning, yet, no matter the curriculum, I saw that so often the 'schooling'' got in the way of true education. But did not have a clue until I started hearing about unschooling. Didn't know what it was, but it resonated with me.
Eventually started unschooling with my 5th and, oh, my, wish I'd known of this option for my first 'batch'! Funny, I'd read some of John Holt's books back in the dark ages, when my son was a toddler. Then much later read his newer stuff and saw the transition he'd made from trying to fix problems inherent to public or private schooling situations, to figuring out what he did about truly respecting a child and the child's wisdom in self-educating.

Ahh...sorry, waxing wordy here. Would love to hear your thoughts on the topic!

Blessings...

Thank you, Becky. I'll look up that website. My grandchildren are in a non-traditional school
and I'm very glad for the positive aspects they get there.

Busy? Well, I don't do all those things at the same time :) And when it gets crazy I somehow
manage to muddle through!

What are you appreciating most, so far, about TwitterMoms?

Blessings...
