A little about yourself...
Hello!!

I hardly ever know where to begin when I have to fill in an "About Me" section, but here goes. First, I am a mom of two little darlings, ages 2 and 4. They are my inspiration for the rest. :) I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for motherhood, helping, teaching, creating, and above all preserving balance in my own family and helping others achieve the same. I love life in NC and reside in the Triangle area with my awesome husband of 10 years (together for 18!) and two children.

In 2007, I decided that it was time to let go of my frustration with corporate America and the toll it was taking on me, my family, and our life balance (or lack thereof), and was lead to pursue my dreams that had been percolating for awhile- something I counseled people on all the time.

Of that passion for families and being true to your heart, two separate dreams were born; Smiling Spirit Creations, which is where the artisan in me comes alive. Prompted by friends for whom I've made personalized pieces, it now fulfills me in a powerful way and I'm amazed every day at the healing it seems to bring to others. Every single bead reflects a part of their story and the entire piece is an original creation just for them. I LOVE THIS ROLE!

Then, Smiling Spirit Pathways is the second arm of my dream. I have been in the social work field for over 18 years, most of those as a mental health therapist for children and families, director of a child abuse prevention center, and most recently full time employment as a Senior Trainer and Curriculum Developer at our local University Social Work Dept. Having left that post to follow these dreams, I combined that experience along with my clinical social work background to create my "safe haven" practice, where I provide specialized workshops in many areas related to life transitions, with a special emphasis on what is most dear to me - Pre and Post Natal adjustment. I also provide individual therapy and supportive counseling. The thing I am most passionate about with this work is helping moms move through the emotional transition into motherhood; that prompted me to develop and author a workshop curriculum specifically designed for that. Last year, this workshop was officially endorsed by our esteemed hospital and birthing center!!

The best part about all of this? I followed the biggest of dreams and hopes - to be home with my children as much as possible.

Some random facts: I am also a writer, I am a weather nerd for sure, I want to start a blog, and I often think about writing a book. I tend to fall (a lot!) and there is no known explanation for that other than it seems to make all of us laugh! (also, a lot!!) I LOVE music and could not imagine my life without it. I am a runner (newly born, however, only a year into it) and ran my first 5K race in November 2008. My first 10K is coming up in March, and then....half marathon maybe? Speaking of...it's really time for me to get in a good workout....so I better run for now! :)

I can't wait to get to know you all at this wonderful new site (well, at least new to me, that is!) :)

Smiles and Blessings,
Cherie

Hi Cherie,

I'm writing to introduce you to a new website I launched for Triangle parents a little over a year ago. Triangle TRACKS, located online at www.triangletracks.com, is an acronym for "Tools, Resources and Activities for Carolina Kids." As a local mom of three and a former magazine editor, I've come across lots of great resources for kids in the Triangle region, so I decided to put them all on ONE website for local families to use. Triangle TRACKS is also a social networking site for parents, so those who join can post blogs, forums, calendar events and other information for other parents to see. I also issue a free, monthly e-newsletter filled with children’s events and resources planned for that month. Let me know if you’d like to subscribe.

Due to the success of Triangle TRACKS, I started Charlotte TRACKS at www.charlottetracks.com for parents in the Charlotte region last month. I’m hoping it will achieve the same success as Triangle TRACKS.

I wanted to reach out to you to find out if you could let your Triangle friends know about this site via email, Twitter or other social networking sites you belong to. And if you get a chance, let me know what you think of Triangle TRACKS.

By the way, my Twitter URL is http://twitter.com/triangletracks.

Thanks,
Elizabeth Shugg
