Yes. I use Marie Veronique Organics, listed as number 2 by the EWG. I believe it's the ONLY sunscreen out that with No nanparticles. The CEO is a mom and melanoma surviver.

YES< YES< YES. Skin Cancer is no joke! There are sunscreens out there made naturally for babies. Also it is worst if your baby GETS a sunburn. Don't Play. Add the Screen! I live in Arizona both my kids get sunscreen. My children have Very fair ski...

Great topic...sunscreen is one of those products that is marketed to confuse consumers. The only way to go is to use a "physical" blocker, such as zinc or tintanium dioxide (vs. a "chemical" blocker in the commercial brands). Chemical blockers, as...

I like the bamboo clothing suggestion. Thanks for the tip! :)

Hi Erin! I really enjoyed your post about the sunscreen issue. Since the birth of my two daughters I've been on a mission to find safe, effective sunscreen. It has been a very frustrating venture. The only sunscreen I think is worth trying (to da...

Hi Michelle, Yes, I use something called Badger and it's a zinc oxide based sunscreen which is very highly rated by the EWG. I use the 30 sunblock because the 15 by the same company is not rated as well for blocking both UVA & UVB rays. I got it a...

Anyone have recommendations for natural/organic sunblock for kids? I've tried a few kinds and am open to suggestions. My daughter, who's now 6 has bad eczema - like Mommy. We recently took a vacation near the beach and I borrowed a friends spray o...

I put sunscreen on my nine month old, but it has been difficult finding a good one. We don't use any chemical sunscreens, because they aren't tested and we don't know what ingredients are inside of them. So we use different zinc based or titanium ...

Erin, Great blog and post about the sunscreen issue. It's such a tricky situation isn't it? I've spoken to my doctor about it too, and it seems to me that they don't share our concerns, or just aren't educated enough about the topic. It was easie...

When I was a kid, I went to Jewish summer camp and we had Havdalah services on Saturday night (to mark the end of Shabbat) we sang songs with the guitar (one in particular that I remember went like this) around the campfire and my favorite thing w...

Daycare Decision

I can’t believe it but I already have to make decisions about Maya’s daycare situation and she’s not even six months old. I’m not going back to work until she’s a year old, but childcare for kids under the age of two is hard to come by in my city, so you have to plan ahead. I thought I had this all figured out because there’s a daycare in the building where I work and it’s a good one, although it’s expensive. Because I work in the building, they’re giving me priority, which means I’m pretty much… Continue

Teething Alternative

At almost six months of age, Maya’s teeth appear to be on their way, as evidenced by some seriously extreme drooling, as well as some tears and pulling at the gums. It’s pretty obvious when Maya has an episode of major teething pain because she cries suddenly and uncontrollably for no apparent reason, which is very out of character for her. She was experiencing quite a few these teething episodes over the past week, and I was giving her infant tylenol to alleviate the discomfort. Then, my sister… Continue

Washing Cloth Diapers

I learned a few new things about cloth diapers today while I was shopping at Mothering Touch (these facts are primarily for pre-fold diapers, not the 2-in-1 systems like bum genius or baby kangas):

1. You cannot use regular zinc-based diaper creams on cloth diapers. Zinc oxide c… Continue

Mother's Day Mishap

Okay, I’m ready to talk about it. It was a total accident and I felt absolutely terrible about it, but it’s over and everything’s okay so I need to get over it. What I’m referring to is the fact that… well… umm… okay… here it is: we dropped our baby! We were lucky. She was not hurt. This is how it happened:

I woke-up on my first Mother’s Day with my sweet husband bringing me cards from him and from Maya while I was lying in bed. Then, we decided to take a relaxing Sunday drive out to the Jordan… Continue

Cloth Diaper Decision

Cloth diapers are getting fairly popular where I live. We’re using them… at least we were until I recently fell off the wagon and started using disposables. In the first days and weeks after Maya’s birth I could not have possibly dealt with cloth diapers. I had a tiny new human being to take care of, which was so utterly life-altering that I could do no more than get through the recovery from my c-section, the introduction to breast feeding (which was totally hell at first) and bond with this ne… Continue
