Hey, thanks Jennifer ! I am planning on seeing it with my 21 yr old daughter Friday night. We turned it into a girls night out plan. Now that she is grown up and not living at home, it will be fun.
I am actuzlly going the 28th to see it! One of my sisters doesn't have anyone to go with so I told we would take her. I am trying to preorder our tickets online because I want the free Twilight song from iTunes.
One of the main challenges has been family and others' disapproval of my daughter not being 'at level' in some areas. I let Tirzah do what she wants (well, she IS required to pull her share around here and does) be it sleep, play games, read, whatever. Sometimes she goes very long stretches of doing 'nothing'. I have learned to let her just 'be'. Cuz she eventually kicks herself into high gear and does amazing things! (If I don't bug her!)
Ok, back to not being 'at level'. For eg, on math. Even tho she's very advanced in her reading, and is a seriously good writer (working daily on a book-in-progress) and fascinated with economics and lots of other stuff, and works her own business, she's been death on math since she was small.
It was really tough to just let her stay at about 2nd or 3rd grade level year after year. But I believed that IF and WHEN she wanted math, it would all 'click' for her, and that it would happen quickly. It was REALLY tough to let her just be at that level even as a 15 yr old! But...I let her be.
AND I WAS RIGHT!!! A few weeks ago, a middle age guy, her friend and fellow-fencer at the fencing academy mentioned a cool book on math. I picked it up at the library and put it on the dining table. (I bring books in and she can read or not read them.)
Tirzah took it to her room and a short time later came running back in VERY excited. "It makes sense! It works!!!"
For several days she was rarely without the math book and paper and pencil, feverishly working problems, asking her (VERY relieved math major) dad questions, in short, obsessing delightedly over math.
In those few short days she covered several grades. And was thrilled when I got the next book for her. And said that now, with this foundation, she'll be able to study beyond the level of these books, even without such cool books.
Would love to hear how things are going with you and your four :)
