Thanks for joining the Married Mamas group. Please stop by the Introductions discussion and tell us a little about you. I look forward to knowing you better and learning your secrets to keeping marriage fun!
I'm new to jicama and read on the Nourishing Moms group that raw potato isn't good for you. Since jicama is a tuber, I wondered if it was OK to eat raw. That's how I like it best, although it was also really good in my pan of roasted vegetables.
Yes, BC is beautiful. I live in the southern interior so we get a lot less rain than Vancouver. It's quieter here and surrounded by lakes and mountains.
Oh, I understand about not posting pics with those children.
Currently my fav outlet is writing. I also love what I guess you'd call sort of a doodling I do in pen.
I'm wanting to get started with clay sometime soon, as well as paper making. Would like to someday be able to eat only on dishes I've made myself.
DD and I put a hold on the book in our library and liked what we read (to put it mildly, ha!) and
are ordering a copy online. If you hunt it up, which we highly recommend, be sure to get the
"All New" version, since he figured more stuff out to make it even easier.
I don't know how one says it 'right', but I think we should do whatever we can in doing our part
to take care of our world. However, I also think there is much needless guilt being 'sold' along
with the green concept. Looking at the overall picture, it's easy to see that natural causes are by far the largest factors in global warming. And that's not something we have control over. I do take very seriously being responsible for things we DO have control over! Just minus the guilt trip :)
Ahh...time to get off a soapbox? Ha!
I'm excited about learning and starting composting. Funny that such things would excite one so much, eh? I just love learning more and more about 'old ways' that once served us well. And about ways to become less dependent on electricity, etc. I want to make a solar oven and learn to start using it. That sort of thing.
I feel so creative in my kitchen as I culture foods (fruit, veg, meat, dairy, grain) to maximize nutrition for my family. And add new experiences to our meals. Love crocks and jars with foods 'doing their thing' on my counters, bubbling their way to a happy pro-biotic state, etc. Super big on Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions. A few days ago another mom on here invited me to Nourishing Moms. I don't know if you'd be interested in that sort of thing, but I invite you to take a peek.
And can't wait til I can look out my kitchen window and see my own herbs (so soul nourishing, don't you think?) and be able to step outside for a sprig of thyme or cilantro or whatever!!!
MY mother used mainly oils. Did such lovely work using a knife. She studied with a local
artist when I was young. Oooh, wall murals, that sounds cool! Any pictures?
Was very happy for my husband to bring home a big bag of vermiculite yesterday. We're
getting closer to having everything we need to start. With the climate here, we should be
able to start as soon as we put the frames together and fill them with the 'Mel's Mix', which
is supposed to eliminate weeding and to maximize yield and other good stuff.
Yesterday evening we were talking about it to my husband (he's not been enthusiastic about it,
just trying to make his girls happy, ha!) and read to him from the book. I think it might have hooked
him a bit, cuz Mel's writing style is so entertaining. (The All New Square Foot Gardening)
I bet there could be folk in your area already doing that method. Let us know how things go for you!
How old is your daughter?
Thank you, Jo Ann :) I think we all have so much more creativity in us than we know, don't you?
Seems I can't do anything without going into creative mode, ha!
My DD and I are just getting started with the gardening (www.SquareFootGardening.com) and are gathering our materials for it. Will keep the group posted as to how it goes for us. Are you familiar with the square foot gardening concept? Seems utterly brilliant to me. Of COURSE, it was created by a retired engineered!!!
